🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(1/21/26)[Prayer]

A New Study For A New Year: Personalities

Genesis 15:1-

15 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

There's an old saying that "If you don't like the weather in Massachusetts...Wait a Minute." This little proverb got proven to me just this last Sunday. My Sister and I went out early for dinner, hoping to get home before it started snowing. The snow started coming down heavily, making the drive home treacherous. Later, I suited up, expecting a difficult walk with the dog. Sure enough, there was about six inches of snow on the ground. After shoveling a walkway to the street, Tippy and I ventured out into the dark. It wasn't snowing anymore, and the plow had come through, but I kept my eyes on my feet because I didn't want to slip.

For some reason, I lifted my eyes up off my feet and looked at the sky. It was completely black, except for an immense number of brilliant stars. It looked like a Star Chart or a Planetarium! I could see and name the Northern Constellations, with Orion the Hunter and his Faithful Dogs leading the way. It was so dazzling, I almost forgot how achingly COLD it was...no I didn't. I HATE THE COLD! Nevertheless, it was hard to tear myself away from this glorious sight. Wiser heads prevailed, and Tippy dragged me home to my warm little trailer.

While my experience with the stars was awesome, it wasn't a "Miracle". It was just a manifestation of Nature and the Wonders of God's Creation. We sometimes call things "miracles" that aren't. The Birth of a Child is not a miracle, but, if the mother of that child is a ninety-year-old woman, it would be. It's not a stretch to understand Abram's getting a bit "anxious" about God's Promise to him.

Abraham is renowned for his Faith, but even HIS faith needed a boost from time to time. When this happened, both Abram and his wife tried to "help God along" with their own "suggestions" as to how God's Promise could be accomplished.

Abram had a servant, Eliezer of Damascus, who will keep coming up in the story. Eliezer is Loyal, Meticulous, and Pious. Like his master, Eliezer prays to the One True God, even though he doesn't know that God's Name. (We'll see this aspect of Eliezer's Personality when he's sent to find a bride for Isaac).

What better heir for a childless man than this good man? What a nice reward for Eliezer's Loyalty and Trust? (What a great plan! Why didn't God think of that? Oh well, it's a good thing I thought it up. I'll let God know what I think about it!)

God's answer is wonderful. "Look Up At The Stars!" He says."Try and Count Them!"

Then, knowing Abram needed something more, God instructs him to prepare a sacrifice, in a very precise order. Abram obeys, and then God consumes the sacrifice in a spectacular, miraculous, manner.

We all need miracles from time to time, but, if you ever find yourself doubting the Power of God, go out on a clear, dark night and TRY to count the stars.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
