Genesis 3:8-24

8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Along with the tons of AI "Slop", which is taking over You Tube, there are hundreds of Videos produced by Psychologists, Pastors and Shrinks (Oh My!) about coping with people who have "Narcissistic Personality Disorder". This Psychological Description is named after the Youth in Greek Mythology, who was so enamored of his own reflection in a pool that he fell into the water and drowned. While some of the commentators assume that it's a purely medical diagnosis, others seek a more spiritual origin. Whatever its source may be, it not only drowns the narcissist, but also the people who love them.

There seems to be two branches of this disorder. The Overt Narcissist, like the character of Gaston in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", is loud, obnoxious, self-centered, self-righteous, and bombastic. The Covert narcissist is far more difficult to detect, just as the name implies. This is the person who's always in need, always being "oppressed", always being misunderstood, and always claiming to have been cheated by the Whole World. While these types may be Polar Opposites, they are actually the same. It's all about Me, Me, Meeeeee!

Both kinds of Narcissists are experts at 'Blame Shifting". While the Overt Narcissist may say:

"I'm SURROUNDED by IDIOTS!!!"

The Covert Narcissist says:

"I never had that opportunity. The whole world is against me. I coulda BEEN Somebody, if I hadn't been held back by (My Parents, My Teachers, My Pastor, My Boss, The Whole Human Race, etc).

The Common thread is the same even if it's expressed differently.

When Adam was first introduced to Eve, he was ecstatic. He composed a beautiful "Wedding Song" on the spot, which was recorded for us in the Book of Genesis. One can only imagine them being inseparable, as the only two humans in a Perfect Environment, intimate, naked, and unashamed. They had Nothing to be ashamed of, because they were innocent.

Nevertheless, Adam had a responsibility to cherish and protect his wife. She was an equal partner in the relationship, but he was still accountable. From the wording in Genesis, it can be deduced that Adam was nearby when Eve was conversing with the Serpent. Eve didn't have to go looking for him to share the Forbidden Fruit. He was right there. He didn't have anywhere else to go, or anyone else to see.

To all my male readers: if you saw your beloved, innocent wife having a conversation with a smarmy snake, what would YOU do about it? Just Askin'. The same goes to my female readers. Would you have intervened and maybe distracted your beloved husband away in a similar situation? We are responsible and accountable to Each Other in the Marital Relationship.

However, both Adam and Eve, when confronted, BOTH engage in Blame-Shifting. Adam blames Eve, and Eve blames the Serpent. And...BOTH of them Blame God Himself.

In view of this, I think that the current diagnosis of "Narcissistic Personality Disorder" is as old as Humanity itself, and has a Spiritual Source.
