Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our God and Our King,
You are the Tender Shepherd Who Leads us ...
You do not Drive us from behind.
You bring us to green fields of Abundance,
And refresh us With clear, cool water.
We ask You To Restore the Soul of America
And lead Us in Paths of Righteousness for Your Name's Sake.
And even though we face recession, distrust, polarization, and despair
And find we are wandering further into the Valley of Death,
We Know that you are With us.
We gladly accept the discipline of Your Rod,
Because we know that the Leadership and Authority of your Staff Will indeed lead us home to safety.
Our enemies surround us, But You identify them and anoint us to stand tall.
We Know You are with us, and Will be forever, in this world and the next.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Scriptures in Handel’s “Messiah”
Matthew 11:30
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Holy Bible, The King James Version
________________________
In 1982, I worked in a Christian Book Store that was also the Bookstore for a local Protestant Seminary. Most of the Seminarians were studying to be part of the Congregational Church, so we sold a lot of that denomination's hymnals. Here's a story related to Hymns, Hymnals, and How the Gospel crosses all Cultures, Languages, and Ethnicities of The World. As an additional illustration, Our Music from "Messiah" will be performed by a Choir in Ghana.
Once again I speak of my second grade Teacher, Miss Marcus, who taught us the Twenty-Third Psalm and old Hymn from the Pilgrim Hymnal, Come Thou Almighty King. That old hymn ends with a Name for God I had never heard before until I learned the song. It was in the closing phrase of the hymn..."Ancient of Days". I didn't know what it meant, but I REALLY loved the sound of it. I associated the Song, the Name, and the Book she held in her hands, all wrapped together in a beautiful, mystical, package, and it all got stored in my deepest memory.
A quarter-century later, I was working in a Church Supply and Book store when a Japanese Minister came in. In heavily accented, broken English, he asked the clerk for the "Piyagrimah Himaru". The clerk looked at him in perplexity and asked him what he meant. "The Piyagrimah Himaru," he struggled, "Wha kongagashunu youza to singu!"
Suddenly, the Song, The Name, and the Book in Miss Marcus's hands flashed though my mind in a vision.
"The Pilgrim Hymnal?" I asked cautiously.
"Hai! Hai!" The Minister gleefully said, a grin going from ear to ear. "Hai! The Piyagrimah Himaru!"
To this day, people wonder where I learned how to speak Japanese.
This Beautiful Chorus is the Finale to Act One of Handel's Messiah. It is what is referred to as "The Christmas Portion" of the Oratorio. Most December Performances go to this Point, and then add the Hallelujah Chorus and a few bits from Acts Two and Three. Personally, I prefer the Oratorio done in its Entirety, but it is a huge undertaking, and most Amateur Groups do not attempt it. This entire Chorus is based upon one phrase in one line of Scripture. His Yoke Is Easy.
When two oxen are yoked together, the burden is not only made easier, but their strength is multiplied. Of course, a cantankerous or rebellious ox can ruin the whole arrangement, and hinder the work. In the case of a very strong ox yoked to a very weak one, it is obvious who will do all the pulling! And yet, the weaker animal derives strength from the arrangement. In this Passage from Matthew, sung as a light, breezy chorus, Jesus tells his disciples that "His Yoke is Easy and His Burden Light", implying that, in the intimacy of being yoked together with Him, we can trust that He will do the "Heavy Lifting".
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Amen to your prayer and story. Plowing down hill is easier too, as in the top picture. Great analogies. The Japanese attempt an English translation was very clever. My wife is Japanese and only spoke a little English, so many confusing moments, I learned not to tease her.

...sang the Messiah many times while in the choir at Lake Ave. Congregational Church in Pasadena, California.
I think our performances can still be found on YouTube...
I was in the Choir from the late 1970' through early 90's.

I notice that, in Japanese, the inclination is to always follow a consonant with a vowel.
It’s the exact opposite in Russian, where consonants are merrily strung together with nary a vowel in sight!
