The Scriptures in Handel’s “Messiah”
Haggai 2:6-7

6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God
Hallowed Be Your Most Holy and Sacred Name,
Precious and Holy,
There is No Other,
All-Powerful and Mighty,
Full of Grace, Love, Healing, and Justice
Glorious in Majesty,
Magnificent in Splendor,
Awesome in Power
And Wonderful Beyond Measure!
We are overwhelmed by Your Holiness
Your Goodness,
And Your Purity.
Sanctify us to Yourself, Touch us with Your Love, and give us Peace.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

If you would like to be on or off the Daily Ping List, please let me know.

Amen !!! <>< (NOTE:We must pray this daily from here on out)

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
and show them my salvation.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Scriptures in Handel's “Messiah”
Haggai 2:6-7

6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.

Holy Bible, The King James Version

First of all, I want to apologize for the incorrect Scripture Passage yesterday. It was Supposed to be Isaiah 40:5, but I ended up printing TODAY'S Passage instead. (Sorry). One of you caught it and gently corrected me, which I appreciate (especially the "gently" part.)

The Librettist, Mr. Jennens, is said to have belonged to a sect of Christianity that was at odds with the Establishment because they took the Bible literally (Imagine THAT!). He recognized many Old Testament Passages that pointed to the Birth of Christ. The entire first Act of Handel's Messiah sings these Passages leading up to The Nativity. Some Choirs do ACT ONE of Handel's Messiah as a Christmas Celebration, but always put the BIG NUMBER in Act Two for their finale. That's the Hallelujah Chorus, of course.

This Piece of Music is 285 years old. The Lyrics, of course, are thousands of years old, as they come from the Scriptures. You may add that the English version of the Lyrics dates back to 1611 (Shakespearean Times) as they are taken from The King James Version of the Bible. One wonders if the music we listen to Today will endure like that. Somehow I don't imagine that Interstellar Explorers will be listening to Taylor Swift as they assume Warp Speed on their way to Proxima Centauri.

They might, perhaps, listen to Handel's Messiah though.

The Oratorio is divided into three Acts

Act 1 concerns the Old Testament Prophecies and the Birth of Christ.
Act 2 is His Death and Resurrection, and
Act 3 is His Coming Glory and Future Reign.

Handel revised and "upgraded" his Oratorio "Messiah" a number of times. I have several recordings of it, and they vary wildly in Tempo, Orchestration, even the assigned voices for the different parts. However, the "Lyrics" remain the same. The power of the Word is not diminished by the Musical Arrangement.

In this section, a thundering Bass sings the words of two "Minor" Prophets, Haggai and Malachi. "Thus Saith The Lord" The only reason these men are called "Minor" Prophets is because their Books are considerably shorter than the "Major" Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel). Musically speaking, "Minor" keys and chords sound sad, exotic, mysterious, or even mystical. Most of the messages of the "Minor" Prophets also fit that description, even though it may be just a coincidence in our language!

Both Haggai and Malachi speak of a shaking of the foundations, of an awakening from our slumber of convenience, and a challenge to our religious complacency.

Not such "minor" pronouncements after all!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Amen to your word. May we head the word of the prophets so that we can hear the beautiful music of heaven and dance to it.

I believe we’ll hear this worship in Heaven.

Lyrics:

Thus saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts

Yet once, a little while and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations; and the desire of all nations shall come

The Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in:

Behold, He shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts

Two of my favorite Names of Jesus are in this song:

The Desire Of Nations
and
The Messenger of the Covenant.

All wrapped up in one CHRISTmas Package.
