20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”

22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”

23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”

Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name!
You Are Holy, Righteous and Just,
And yet, You reach out to Your Creation,
And Touch us daily with Your Holy Word!

There is a very nice Mexican Restaurant that my sister and I frequent. The prices are moderate, the atmosphere elegant, and the food is really authentic. My personal favorite is their "Jalisco Burrito" which is so huge that I get two more meals from the leftovers.

On the outside is a mural of a Mexican Hero, with the inscription: "BETTER TO DIE ON YOUR FEET THAN LIVE ON YOUR KNEES"...E. Zapata". Now, without getting into the Politics of that inscription or the character of Zapata, I know that it's not about being on one's knees in PRAYER. He's talking about slavery. Unfortunately, as Woody Allen showed in the movie "Bananas", Revolutions often replace one form of slavery with another.

The Last Supper was a Seder Meal, in celebration of the Passover. The Passover commemorates Deliverance from Slavery, so it's a bittersweet Holy Day. In my own personal opinion, Slavery is one of the vilest thing one person can do to another. To this day, the Passover Meal includes little dipping bowls of salty water. This represents the tears of the slaves. It is interesting that Jesus used this device to identify His betrayer.

Judas is an enigmatic figure. Bible Scholars try to make excuses for him: He was a Zealot, disappointed that Jesus didn't overthrow the Romans, or some other excuse.

Jesus identified Judas as Judas dipped his unleavened bread into the tears of slavery...he became a slave to the Evil One with that gesture.
