Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13 Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

17 When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

When Penny The Pitbull passed away, I only lasted 3 days before I was on the mission of adpting another dog. During the Covid debacle, it wasn't possible to do this the old-fashioned way, going to a shelter, walking between the cages, and meeting one's new "BFF". Every other time it had been that way, and the "connection" was formed instantly. Both the dog and I just KNEW.

Now everything was online. Even the home visit was done on a ZOOM call. I really liked Tippy from her picture and description, but the process was so different from the way I had done previous adoptions (Tippy was #6).

I wasn't acquainted with the "Bluey" Cartoons at the time, nor had I ever heard of an "Aussie Cattle Dog", so I did a little research on the breed. Most of the pages on the Internet contained dire warnings about the animals huge energy and obsessive need to WORK. Here's a sample:

"NOT SUITED TO APARTMENT LIVING OR SMALL HOMES, OR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN. MUST HAVE CONSTANT ACTIVITY TO AVOID BOREDOM. CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE IF BORED.

OK...so I live in a mobile home (750 sq. ft) with no land, and am a Senior Citizen. A perfect Match! LOL. Still I really liked the look of this dog and wanted her.

When I went for the "Meet and Greet" at the foster home 70 miles away, I put the leash on Tippy and said "HEEL." She trotted along obediently by my side. The Foster Parent was astounded, and said that nobody had been able to get Tippy to heel like that. So I guess we are a perfect match.

Tippy has a Job, and it's waking me up at 5:30AM to take a walk. I yell at her and go back to sleep. Then she comes in again at 6:30 for the REAL Wake-Up Call.

Yesterday was my Birthday, and Tippy was very considerate. She eschewed the 5:30 Pre-wake and waited till 6:30 to get me up. Birthday or not, she still needed to be walked, fed, and given fresh water.

How Tippy knew it was my Birthday, I will never know.

God commanded the Observance of the Sabbath, a Day of Rest one day a week. However, there are certain things that have to be done EVERY DAY, especially for those who depend upon us for their life and sustenance. People who work in Health Care or Emergency Services are very much affected by this. If we have animals, we can't take a day off from taking care of them.

Jesus never said that we should "profane" the Sabbath, but on the other hand, it's right to DO GOOD on that Day. Healing the Sick, Feeding the Hungry, and even Walking and feeding one's animals are things that have to be done everyday. Even on My Birthday! (Thanks Everybody For Your warm Greetings and Birthday Wishes Yesterday!)

Amen, good word. I have a friend who trained his blue healer to pray. She would put her head on your chest and stay there for a while. It actually felt peaceful. Our border collie is also hyper job demanding. But when we pray she lays down on the floor and closes her eyes till we are all done. BFF is right.

Heelers and Border Collies are the Einsteins of the canine World.

My Border Collie Torey(RIP...Also a Rescue) figured out how to disable an electric fence.

She had things to do and would not be deterred by electricity, when she knew that a completed circuit is necessary to make it work.

So she dug down to the wire and disconnected it before she dug under the fence to make her escape.
