Our God and Heavenly Father,
How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Giving Us Hope,
Perseverance,
Stamina,
and Determination,
And Thank You for Giving Us Clear Direction,
even when we seem to forget.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

Maybe it's because my Grandfather was a Gloucester Fisherman, or because my Dad was a US Navy Veteran of WW2 and Korea, or because Dad taught me to sail a boat when I was in my early teens, but I can't get enough of the Ocean. I've swum in the Atlantic, The Pacific, The Mediterranean, and The Caribbean. They all feel different, have different buoyancy, and even taste different. I don't know if it's the currents, or salinity, or whatever, but, even in Massachusetts, the Ocean is different, from a beach on Cape Cod to a beach on the North Shore. I can't imagine living somewhere that is too far from the ocean to visit on a whim.

Herman Melville described this quirk of mine in his first chapter of Moby Dick. While I love the Mountains and the Plains of our beautiful country, I always find the nose of my motorcycle aiming for the nearest ocean.

The Great Civilizations of the Earth are nearly always situated with water access. This could be a Mighty River, like The Tigris, Euphrates, the Nile, or The Mississippi. The Rivers and Oceans provided Transportation, Exploration,Trade, Defense, and Wealth to whatever Culture was lucky enough to find themselves nearby.

This is what makes Jerusalem so unique. It has no ocean, no great river, and no magnificent lake to provide any of the above mentioned benefits. One would think that the Coastal Cities would be more prosperous, or even a nice town on the Sea of Galilee. But, no. Jerusalem sits on three dry valleys (coincidentally shaped like the Hebrew Letter "Shin"), and its only water source is a spring. This required complicated water systems so the city wouldn't die of thirst during a siege. That's pretty inconvenient. The ocean is miles away, and the Jordan River is just a little muddy stream compared to the Nile or the Euphrates.

Why have so many battles been fought, so much blood spilled, and so many diplomatic conflicts erupted over this one landlocked, river-less city?

Even to this day, the whole planet is focused on Jerusalem. Why do you suppose that is?
