Our Lord and Our God

Dum de dum DUM. As soon as I heard those Four Notes, introducing the TV Show "Dragnet", I'd come running. I didn't even know what a "dragnet" was, but I liked the show. No-Nonsense Joe Friday would always get the crooks, but Los Angeles California seemed to have enough crooks to keep the show going year after year. I guess that's why they needed a fishnet to catch them all!

The Book of Habakkuk is somewhat neglected by Bible Readers, as it seems to be a private conversation between Habakkuk and God. It is a series of complaints from the prophet, and God's answers, and then bursts into a song of praise and glory. It's a short book, only three chapters, and can be read in one sitting.

Habakkuk is called a "Minor Prophet", only because his book is much shorter than the Books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, or Ezekiel.

Habakkuk's first complaint is that there's so much evil in the world. (A Familiar Prayer, even in our present day). Habakkuk complains that evil people are like the slimy sea creatures that get caught in a fisherman's dragnet, what are commonly known as "trash fish". These are slimy, creepy, crawly things that you wouldn't want on your dinner table...and the Sea is FULL of them.

When a fisherman pulls in a dragnet, he will get a few really nice fish, but he has to sort them out. Jesus used this illustration to picture the End of Days, when the Righteous are separated from the wicked. (Matthew 13:47).

I wonder if the last trumpet will be playing those FOUR NOTES. It would be appropriate!
