A Prophecy Against Tyre

26 In the eleventh month of the twelfth[a] year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gate to the nations is broken, and its doors have swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will prosper,’ 3 therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves. 4 They will destroy the walls of Tyre and pull down her towers; I will scrape away her rubble and make her a bare rock. 5 Out in the sea she will become a place to spread fishnets, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord. She will become plunder for the nations, 6 and her settlements on the mainland will be ravaged by the sword. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

One of the most shocking scenes in a movie, that I remember from my childhood, is the last scene in the original "Planet of the Apes".

I had not read the book, so I had no idea how the movie was going to end. I think I was with my Dear Friend Diana (who will be reading this, so you can correct me if I'm mistaken, Diana!) We were 15 years old and huge Sci-Fi Fans back then. We sat in the dark theater, fascinated by the premise that, on this particular planet, Apes had evolved beyond humans, and that the "Homo-Sapiens" were a subjugated Slave Race. How could this have possibly happened?

The last scene, with a ruined Statue of Liberty stranded on the beach, solved the mystery. The Astronauts had not traveled any distance; they had traveled in time. They had never left earth, but had arrived millennia after a Nuclear Holocaust, and Nature had to start all over. It was a brilliant concept at the time, but has overdone and beaten to death in the intervening 60 years.

Tyre, an Island Fortress off the coast of Lebanon, has the perfect location for Seafaring Commerce. With two Natural Harbors, situated with the Middle East on one side and the Mediterranean on the other, one would think that it could be an awesome Metropolis in our modern age.

It is, perhaps, for tourists and archaeologists, but, as a city, it could never hold a candle to Beirut, which was once called "The Paris of the Middle East".

Ezekiel describes the fall of Tyre, and, indeed, it has been bombarded and conquered many times over the centuries. Alexander, The Crusades, and Napoleon all got a crack at it, and none of them stayed for any real length of time.

Jesus visited Tyre and Sidon (Luke 10:14), and He said that the Last Days would be more tolerable for the Gentiles in those towns because they believed Him. This was saying a lot, because, even then, the city had become a "big nothing" compared to Jerusalem.

Perhaps Jesus was saying that His Message was for ALL People, not just the Jews.

So, Diana, I KNOW we saw "2001 A Space Odyssey" together. Did we also see "Planet of the Apes" together as well?
