Healing of the Water

19 The people of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.”

20 “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.

21 Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’” 22 And the water has remained pure to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.

Healing of the Water

A large part of the earth's surface is covered in water, most of it too salty to drink. It seems counter-intuitive to add salt to water to make it potable. In fact, in areas where we obtain our fresh drinking water, road salt in the winter is restricted. In particularly harsh winters, the enormous piles of dirty, greasy, SALTY snow don't dissolve till late spring, and there's always concern that it will penetrate the soil and contaminate the water table.

We're not told what made the water undrinkable in Elisha's town. His solution must have puzzled the citizens.

However, the salt that Elisha poured into the water source made the water potable. The Bible uses the word "Healed" for what happened.

There are events in our lives that can cause extreme hurt, trauma, and anger. Our souls become embittered, and are, in effect, contaminated and "undrinkable".

Then, something happens that's seems worse than pouring salt into the wound. Instead of poisoning the water further, that salt becomes a "Turning Point" and brings about a whole new movement. Some authors have called this a "Black Swan Event", ie: An Event that is unexpected but changes History".

I'm sure you can name a few.
