Duct Tape holds the Universe together. LOL.
(Just joking, Dear Metmom. We all know that Jesus Christ Holds the Universe together (Colossians 1:17).
I LOVE Duct Tape, and use it for everything, including the removal of fiberglass splinters after handling insulation. Yes! Duct tape is good for Medical Emergencies,Household Repairs, Stagecraft (taping down wires, etc) and Artistic Expression.
I use it for all of the above, and more. 😁
Like a number of useful things, it was developed during WW2.

My children used to say I could have a jar of carbolated Vaseline and a roll of tape and fix whatever dilemma presented itself.
Carbolated Vaseline killed germs before we had antibiotic salves. It contained phenols.
Vasoline, Duct Tape, and Super Glue.
