Our God,

How beautiful , How Lovely, and How Holy!
You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise,

One never knows where a conversation will lead.

A young piano student of mine was getting bored. She could play "Fur Elise" and "The Spinning Song", but they sounded devoid of emotion. All the notes were right, but it just wasn't working for her. I thought I would introduce Pop Piano to her with a simplified arrangement of "Over The Rainbow". I told her to imagine that she was Dorothy, orphaned and living on a farm in Kansas, and being in "Black & White instead of Color". Her longing for an exciting and colorful life was expressed in the song. She did a beautiful job.

Then I introduced her to Billy Joel, with a straight forward arrangement of "Just The Way You Are". She questioned some of the dissonant notes in the song, and I explained that it was "Jazz Harmony" and she would get used to it. She worked on that song for almost five months, but now it sounds awesome.

Next came Elton John's "Candle in the Wind". Explaining the meaning of this song was difficult, because the child had never heard of Marilyn Monroe. Carefully, I explained that she was a very beautiful Movie Star, who wanted to be a real actress. However, because she was so pretty, Hollywood kept putting her in silly roles as a "dumb blonde".

When asked if she ever got a serious acting role, I replied that maybe two or three of her movies qualified. The one I remembered best was "Niagara".

I recalled a scene where the Police were able to locate the victim of a crime from the roaring of Niagara Falls in the background of a pay-phone call.

That led to explaining the lack of Cell Phones, GPS, Tracking Software, and just about every modern convenience in telecommunications we have today. Considering that movie was made when I wasn't even a year old, I must be a Neanderthal

The point was, of course, that the sound of Niagara Falls is so loud and pervasive that the people who live nearby are constantly surrounded by it. In more than one place in the Bible, the Voice of The LORD is described as being like the sound of thunderous rushing water.

She's only gotten through the First Verse so far, as she is learning "Candle in the Wind" step-by-step, inch-by-ince.

The thunder of Niagara Falls is powerful, but I imagine it pales in comparison to this wondrous, mysterious scene. I can’t even wrap my mind around this. There will be so many marvelous new things to see when we finally go home.
