[Catholic Caucus] New Coke, New Mass: What's the Lesson?

[Catholic Caucus] New Coke, New Mass: What's the Lesson?

It's been observed that the secular Coca Cola Company has been much more astute about what they are producing than has the hierarchy of the Catholic Church!

Consider. Recall that many years ago now a huge ad campaign was conducted by the soda company for putting out what they themselves labeled on the cans and bottles the NEW COKE.

This was supposed to capture the imagination of the whole world. The revered Coca Cola Company has now improved their famous soda and even more folks will want to drink their product.

It didn't take long for everyone to see that that NEW COKE was a complete organizational disaster. Virtually no one was buying it. They wanted the traditional Coca Cola.

So of course the business management of the company made the sane decision. They acknowledged the new product was a bust, immediately took it off the market, and returned the original. And the rest is history.

Now what happened in our Church? It didn't take long for everyone to see that the NEW MASS resulted in a mass exodus! (pun intended)

One would expect then in a sane world that the leadership would humbly acknowledge that they caused this catastrophe, apologize for their role in putting souls in jeopardy, and recall the "product" (that's literally what it was and is), restoring the genuine original.

Of course the Church's "business management" does not care about its consumers. They have intentionally replaced the original with a faux precisely because they are enemies of the Church. They secretly celebrate the mass exodus, the loss of faith, and continue to promote a one world religion.

I get the intent but they missed.

>They acknowledged the new product was a bust, immediately took it off the market, and returned the original.

Coca-cola did no such thing. They admitted ‘new Coke’ was not selling, took it off the market, and have sold Coca-Cola “original” with corn syrup in the US since. “Oops our bad” turned into a great way of effecting a cost-saver without having people be able to compare original to corny Coke.

Only pressure from RFK is causing them to use cane sugar again; and even then it would take a savant-level palate to recall just how 1980s Coca-Cola was. Even looking up that date bring up articles questioning whether the supposed return is like “Mexican Coke” well before it happens.

Hmm, maybe not a bad analogy after all. From the not-cradle perspective it seems V2 was sold as a means by which people could engage more, but over time the exception of laxity has become the rule and a novus ordo performed with Latin and ad orientem and other traditional behaviours draws criticisms.

Note: https://www.historyoasis.com/post/coca-cola-corn-syrup

“Coca-Cola tried to calm the public by introducing New Coke with the new formula. The public was not impressed.

Classic Coca-Cola was reintroduced with the original formula, except for the real cane sugar. The corn syrup was not going away anytime soon.”

Seems my memory was a bit off; if this is accurate the corn was introduced, was unpopular, and then voila the newCoke fiasco wiped the slate clean.

Actually, both accounts are not quite accurate. Although Classic Coke was only off the market for 79 days, in 1985; New Coke was kept on the market, after being renamed Coke II, up until 2002.

If the TLM and NO were both put on equal footing, the NO would eventually become obsolete as Coke II has, not overnight but in a couple of decades.
