Oh LORD,
You are Forever Holy and Righteous.

For some strange reason, Today's verse was the Reading on a certain Sunday back in the late 1950s. Now, imagine being a little girl of about eight or nine years old, in her Sunday Best, sitting in the pew and hearing that. The subsequent sermon, which contained no explanation or analysis of that crazy verse about dragons and beasts with multiple heads, was about the usual "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR", and the Church Service continued on as if nothing had happened.

But I was puzzled and intrigued. I asked my parents what it meant, but they had no idea. It certainly wasn't from the Gospel! And so, I stopped inquiring, as there were no computers to look things up, and I didn't even know where to begin at the Library. The Dragon and the Beast With Ten Heads got filed in a dark little corner of my memory.

Now imagine about 25 years later, reading the whole Bible from cover to cover. The Dragon and the beast didn't show up in either the Old Testament or the New, until the very end. Instantly, as I read the first verse in Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation, there it was! Finally, I found it, after all those years. But...it STILL didn't make sense.

The Book of Revelation can be read many different ways. Some scholars say that the beast is Nero. Others point their fingers at various Christian Denominations, and say it's THEM. Still others say it's the Antichrist, who hasn't shown up yet. Still others say it's the SPIRIT of Antichrist who manifests itself as one world religion. We can probably add the "New World Order", the EU, Communism, and Islam to the list. There are, after all, ten heads. Could it be some kind of coalition?

Artists, CGI, and AI all struggle to depict these creatures in Art, but they all fall short. Still, they are some detailed and fanciful illustrations, as any search engine will demonstrate.

OK, but what does this have to do with Water, Rivers, and Streams? The verse tells us that the Beast emerges from the Ocean. Without getting too dogmatic about it, I learned that the Ocean in the Bible symbolizes the opposite of "The Land", ie: the Gentile nations. That can mean that the Antichrist would be a Gentile...or not.

I can totally appreciate why the sermon on that Mid-20th Century Sunday was about "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR" instead of the scheduled New Testament Reading. The Service would have gone on for DAYS!

Good Morning ML....and yes, I can relate to your writing this morning.

Oftentimes when I read passages in God's Word that are puzzling, I have to simply bow my head and talk with my Father.

Since He knows my heart any way I am telling Him nothing He doesn't already know.....that I simply don't understand, but trust HIM to reveal it in His time....
