American Jewish Committee Donates $25,000 to Repair Holy Family Church in Gaza
National Catholic Register ^ | August 5, 2025 | Madalaine Elhabbal

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) has announced that it will donate $25,000 toward the reconstruction of Holy Family Church in Gaza in the wake of the July 17 missile attack that left three dead and 15 wounded, including the parish priest, in addition to structural damage to the only Catholic church in the area.

“We are deeply saddened by the deaths, injuries, and structural damage at the Holy Family Church in Gaza and stand in solidarity with our Catholic brothers and sisters,” group CEO Ted Deutch said in a press release.

“We pray for the full recovery of the injured and the safety of all peoples affected by the devastation of war,” Deutch said.

The global Jewish advocacy group, which is headquartered in New York City, said in the release that the funds will be distributed to the Gaza parish through the Archdiocese of New York with the help of Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

“We appreciate AJC’s expression of consolation and support and are thankful for the opportunity to do good as Jews and Catholics together in this way, to bring some light to the darkness of war,” Cardinal Dolan said.

The donation comes after the Israeli military said Holy Family was “mistakenly” hit during an Israeli strike on July 17.

The organization expressed gratitude to Dolan and the New York Archdiocese as well as the Catholic Near East Welfare Association for its help “in enabling AJC to do what is right and consistent with Jewish values.”

The group recalled when the archdiocese was part of an interreligious coalition that donated funds to help rebuild homes in Kibbutz Kfar Aza in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Statement of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem

This morning, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Compund of the Holy Family in Gaza, belonging to the Latin Patriarchate, was struck by the Israeli army. As of this hour, three individuals lost their lives as a result of the injuries sustained and nine others were wounded, including one in critical condition and two in serious condition. The community’s parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli, sustained light injuries.

The people in the Holy Family Compund are people who found in the Church a sanctuary—hoping that the horrors of war might at least spare their lives, after their homes, possessions, and dignity had already been stripped away. On behalf of the entire Church of the Holy Land, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families, and from here, we offer our prayers for the swift and full recovery of the wounded.

The Holy Father has conveyed his own heartfelt condolences, his solidarity with them, and his prayers on their behalf.

The Latin Patriarchate strongly condemns this tragedy and this targeting of innocent civilians and of a sacred place. However, this tragedy is not greater or more terrible than the many others that have befallen Gaza. Many other innocent civilians have also been harmed, displaced and killed. Death, suffering and destruction are everywhere.

The time has come for leaders to raise their voices and to do all what is necessary in order to stop this tragedy which is humanly and morally, unjustified.

This horrific war must come to a complete end—so that we may commence the long work of restoring human dignity.

We embrace all those in the compound and stand with them in this painful hour, as they bury members of the community. We express our gratitude to all those who are sharing their condolences and sympathy with the Patriarchate and the church.

We will continue to stand by the side of the community of Gaza and do all that what is within our power to support them.

May the souls of the victims rest in eternal peace and may the Lord grant you all His Peace.

Israel bombs Gaza’s only Catholic church

A priest who was a close friend of the late Pope Francis has been injured in an Israeli strike on Gaza’s only Catholic church.

The attack on Thursday killed three people, injured several others and and damaged the Holy Family Church. It is one of three surviving churches in the war-ravaged enclave, which have become refuges for displaced Christians.

“The Holy Family Church in Gaza has been struck by a raid this morning. There are several injuries in the place, including the parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli,” the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem said.

Reports indicate that Trump’s reaction to the bombing at the Holy Family Church in Gaza was negative.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt commented that Trump’s reaction to the church being hit by Israeli fire was reported as “not positive”.

It was reported that Trump contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the strike to discuss the incident.

Following the discussion, Netanyahu’s office released a statement expressing “deep regret” over the strike, acknowledging that it was a result of “stray ammunition” and calling it a “mistake” by the Israelis.

Lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene described the crisis in Gaza as a “genocide” and has proposed legislation to block aid to Israel. Polls suggest many young students now have a negative opinion of Netanyahu. The ceaseless college demonstration show people are starting to hate Israel.

Candace Owens was labeled a “dreaded anti-semite” for innocently asking, ‘What is this unique, strange, disgusting, perverse relationship that we seem to have with Israel?’ Owens is a popular podcaster and is now stuck with being forever labeled “ a proponent of antisemitic conspiracy theories.”

For Netanyahu, Israel’s regional bombing spree caused the dramatic weakening of what it consider its “regional adversaries.”

Israel’s relentless military campaigns has created a canvas of opportunity.

Israel would like to be a regional hegemon. But they know they cannot be a regional hegemon without US billions. But they push it as far as they can go........ with no one daring to stop them.

A Middle East analyst cued by Israel to say “Israeli government officials see the writing on the wall” and sent out a warning that “the blank checks it gets might not last.”

Hundreds of retired Israeli security officials, including former heads of intelligence agencies such as Mossad and Shin Bet, have urged US President Donald Trump to intervene and pressure the Israeli government to end the war in Gaza.

These officials argue that:

<><>Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel. They state it is their professional judgment that Hamas is militarily defeated and its remaining capabilities can be handled without a prolonged conflict.

<><>The war has exceeded its initial justification. Former internal security service head Ami Ayalon, a signatory, argues the war started as a defensive measure but has since lost its just cause after military objectives were achieved.

<><>The continuation of the war is harming Israel’s security and international standing. They express concern that the war is jeopardizing Israel’s security and identity, leading to increasing international isolation and potential charges of war crimes.

<><>A ceasefire is crucial for the release of hostages. The officials believe that the remaining hostages can only be brought home through a deal, and chasing remaining Hamas operatives can be done later.

The appeal to Trump reflects a belief that only his influence can get through to the power-driven Netanyahu.

They want a ceasefire and a deal to return the hostages.

They suggest that a ceasefire could facilitate a regional coalition to support a reformed Palestinian Authority in taking control of the Gaza Strip, according to DW.

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) recently donated $25,000 to the Archdiocese of New York to help with the rehabilitation of the Israeli-bombed Holy Family Church and community in Gaza.

The church was damaged in an Israeli bombing strike July 2025.

This donation is a “rare instance” of a mainstream US Jewish group providing aid to Palestinians in Gaza during the ongoing war.

Although Netanyahu must be worried sick about cessation of US taxpayer billions in retaliation, there is no evidence to date suggesting that Benjamin Netanyahu “pressured” the AJC to make this donation.

The AJC’s statements emphasize their desire to “show solidarity” with their Catholic partners, with whom they have a long-standing relationship, particularly with the Archdiocese of New York.

While there are reports of various forms of pressure on different Jewish organizations concerning their funding and advocacy efforts related to Israel, there is no indication that Netanyahu directly influenced this specific donation from the AJC.......as yet.

This somehow reminds me of a similar 51 intel heads letter that got sent to Trump. Israel has a far left rot inside of it just like the US.
