Our Father in Heaven

Avi, our Israeli guide, told a naughty joke on the bus. It went like this:

"Q. Why is it illegal in Israel to make love on the sidewalk?
A. Because, if you do, fifty people will come over to you and tell you that you're doing it wrong."

The joke could just as easily been applied to Interpreters of Bible Prophecy, especially the Book of Daniel.

What passed for "Ancient History" in Jr. High focused a lot upon an area of the world called "The Fertile Crescent". This was the area encompassed by the Great Rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates. These two Rivers are mentioned in the First Book of the Bible, as being two of the Four Rivers in the Garden of Eden. The area is also called "The Cradle of Civilization", although what we call "civilized" probably meant something different then. These two rivers are still in the news. During the Gulf War and the war in Iraq, we became reacquainted with The Tigris, which goes through Baghdad. The Euphrates, which goes through Iran, has dozens of You Tube Videos about it, claiming that it's drying up. (YT is NOT my source for reliable news reporting. I just thought that it was interesting.)

The Prophet Daniel, who had been stolen from his homeland as a youth, is now an old man, standing on the bank of the "Great River", the Tigris. He has seen kings and empires come and go, and has enjoyed the favor of several monarchs in the seventy years he has been held captive. All that time, he has never wavered in faithfulness to his God.

His Vision, which is sometimes called a Theophany, is of a Being so glorious that poor Daniel is overwhelmed. He is given a Panorama of History and the Future, and even a timeline for the Coming of Messiah.

Biblical Scholars have been able to calculate that, from the decree to rebuild the Temple to the Birth of Christ matches Daniel's Vision.

Some of Daniel's Vision was for all to read and interpret. Other parts were to be kept sealed until "The End". Of course, the "sealed" part is what keeps Theologians arguing, and we won't be solving it today on this Humble Prayer thread. In fact, if I ventured my own Eschatological Interpretation of Daniel's Vision, there would be Fifty People coming over to tell me I'm doing it WRONG! 😁
