Amen and Amen; thank you for your ministry on Free Republic -
"This song has too many chords! I can't possibly play it and sing at the same time. And on top of that, my VOICE IS CHANGING! Will you sing it for me in the recital?" Jake looked at me imploringly.
Well, that was not a simple request. The song was "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones, and I had just planned on accompanying the student on the bass. Singing and playing bass at the same time is more difficult than accompanying oneself on the guitar. But it was my husband's favorite song, and I was certain he would enjoy my singing it in the recital. Meanwhile, Jake worked very hard on the guitar part to get it just right. I had booked the venue for the recital months in advance, and the twenty students who would be performing diligently polished their material for this exciting annual event.
Then...a month and a half before the big day, the unthinkable happened. My husband of 39 years took his own life, leaving me in a tailspin.
My students' families were very kind, bring flowers, casseroles, and helping me out, (I MUST add here that my biggest comfort came from right here on FR...some of you may remember the incident), but there was that recital looming on the horizon...just a month away. The venue was unlikely to provide a refund on such short notice, the parents had all paid entry fees, and the date could not be pushed forward as many of the kids were going off to summer camp. And the kids...they would be SO disappointed after working all year on their music. I couldn't let them down. It had to go as planned.
But then there was "Wild Horses". Susan Boyle had just come out with a recording of the song, so it wasn't so weird for me to sing it, being an overweight middle-aged lady myself. But Susan's voice would always bring me to tears, after seeing her ace "I Dreamed a Dream" on "Britain's Got Talent" and humiliating the nasty, mean-spirited judges with her voice. I had used Susan's recordings of Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" at my husband's funeral, and now she was doing "Wild Horses"!
Some of the parents said I should cancel the recital. Others could not see why I should. The kids were all determined to do it, so I decided in favor of the kids.
The first act went smoothly, with the elementary school children playing the standard piano pieces, taking their bows, and doing a great job. After Intermission and snacks, the Middle School and High School kids tuned up their electric guitars for a set of Classic Rock. After some Beatles, Taylor Swift, and even some Old Time Rock and Roll, it was Jake's turn. I stepped up to the mike and said a prayer.
What followed was the best "Wild Horses" I had ever sung, and the wasn't a dry eye in the place.
Nobody can tell another person how to express their grief. Mourning takes many forms, and it is never for us to place limits on another's personal tragedy. There were some who thought I should never have gone through with the recital, and others who thought that I had to honor my commitment to their kids. In the end, I had to trust in God to give me the strength to do what was the right thing.
Years later, I ran into Jake in a mall. He was now a handsome young man, and he hugged me, right in the middle of a crowded store. I was so glad that happened, because the very next day would be my last day in Florida. God has a way of tying up all the loose strings.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
Touching story, especially for those who grieve.
My eyes aren’t dry either...love Susan Boyle rendition of Wild Horses.
My prayers for you and for the Peace of Jerusalem. God bless.

Prophecy is in fact a primal component of the Bible., no one will bother living for God if they don't believe in God first.
/
The Bible is packed with prophecy, starting in Genesis
Gen 2:17 - but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
/
The canard that
“the vast majority of major world events, including major world events in the Middle East, are not prophesied in the Bible.
That's because the Bible is not primarily a book of predictions, like a glorified version of Nostradamus.”
is just that, a canard .
Just cuz every war isn't foretold doesn't negate the ones that are. That major world events in the mideast aren't prophesied is ridiculous. The prophecies of the Savior, and their fulfillment , are arguably the greatest world events to ever happen, the whole history and existence of the Judaeo/Christians western civilization proves that. Major world events in the mideast are prophesied .
That assertion and slander that equates prophecy and Nostradamus is foul on its face.
Preterism that teaches the Israelis being the chosen ones of God are replaced by the Church, is itself an argument of dispensation. A faulty and invalid one , but an argument of dispensation never the less. So to deride and reject dispensationalism in any form is pure rank hypocrisy. Their whole argument against dispensationalism fails right there as does their faulty dispensation assertion that Israel has been replaced by the Church. The branch of the Church has been grafted into the Vine of Gods people. No, this articles sole purpose is to deny that there are prophecies still to be fulfilled in relation to Israel in the mid east . And when questioned about prophecies such as the lion laying down with the lamb, as well as the prophecy of Amos 9:14,15, the preterists will break the rules of language, exegesis and Hermeneutics and turn literal passages into metaphors and metaphors into literal passages , as well as other acts of violence against the texts. A tactic that gained strength with Augustine . Rome couldn't defeat Christianity. The harder they tried the stronger it got. So how does one try and beat what can't be beat ? . You join it, infiltrate it ,feign allegiance, and corrupt and undermine and change and attempt to overthrow it from within. Replacement theology ,aka preterism , is this tactic personified. / God bless Jerusalem and bring peace to His city and God bless Israel. .
Correction
Constantine not Augustine

“the Bible is not primarily a book of predictions, like a glorified version of Nostradamus”
Dear FRiend;
I won’t pull your comment, because you have a very valid point. I trust the Bible completely, and believe that I see Prophecy about Israel being fulfilled every day.
I can tell from your comment that you love Israel and are praying for her, like everyone who visits this thread.
Thank you for that.
However, I would like to remind you that this is a Designated Prayer Thread, rather than a doctrine thread, or a prophecy thread, or even a debate thread. Your thoughtful comment might unleash a torrent of opposition, and then this “Garden of Prayer” will become no different from some of the most cantankerous and belligerent threads in the Religion Forum. (I’m sure you KNOW what I’m talking about.😇 There are some DOOZIES in that Forum!)
That being said, I thank you for joining us in the Garden of Prayer For the Peace of Jerusalem.
Shalom.
Amen

I see, I understand.
Thank you.
Thank you for your understanding. 🇮🇱
Belated condolences for the loss of your husband. Mine died off OD a couple decades ago. How time flies.
Re: God and waters. I’m reminded, too, how do much water came forth from the earth during the great flood.

Psalm 125
A Song of Ascents.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time on and for evermore.
3 For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest
on the land allotted to the righteous,
so that the righteous may not stretch out
their hands to do wrong.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
and to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways
the Lord will lead away with evildoers.
Peace be upon Israel!
Amen. You have always been a hero.
Well done, you upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful servant! You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) which your master enjoys.
