Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Numbers 22:4-6

4 The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time, 5 sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the Euphrates River, in his native land. Balak said:

“A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me. 6 Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you curse is cursed.”

Some Stories:

1. The Tat: My two sisters and I went out to eat in a Local Restaurant. We were served by an extremely handsome (I mean just GORGEOUS!) Black Gentleman, Dressed to the Nines in a vest and suit-slacks. My eyes were drawn to his wrists, where his starched white cuffs were secured with tasteful cuff-links. And then I saw it. Tattooed around his wrists were Cyrillic Characters spelling out something. I began sounding out the words (I can read Russian, but very slowly) but realized that it wasn't a Russian word I recognized. Then, stupid me asked:

"What does your tat say?" (You know us Bikers, always explaining the meaning of our ink.)

"Uh...it's Ukrainian. I was a Mercenary there."

I quickly shut my mouth! That was a discussion I did NOT want to start. My youngest sister whipped out her phone and looked up "Mercenary". I saw her visibly shudder.

2. The Psychic Scene: In an extremely silly movie, the "Fortune Teller" rifles through a guy's wallet to find out more about him. All the time, she's stalling, saying:

"You're here because you WANT something".

This resonates with the foolish "client". She sees a picture of a bicycle in the guy's wallet, and says:

"I see a ...BICYCLE!"

Well, the guy is LOOKING for his stolen bicycle, so he's now a BELIEVER. Psychic Scene From "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"

3. The Telltale Hand: My Left Hand has callouses on all four fingertips, and my Right Hand only has a callous on the tips of the Index and Middle Finger. A skilled "Fortune-Teller" could hold my hands, gaze deeply into my eyes, and say something like this:

"Ah...the aura surrounding you is of a dark and low frequency, which indicates that you want to get to the bottom of things. You are creative and artistic...musical!... but you hold down the foundation for others to soar. They couldn't do it without your foundation, You stick to the root and build up from there, knowing that, without the root, the tree would topple of its own weight. You are the Heartbeat, the Spine, the Bones that keep everything going. You are a Bass Player!"

This brilliant deduction would come from the fact that Bass is Normally played by plucking the strings with alternating two fingers of the Right Hand. (Not with a Pick, as with the Guitar). That would explain the callouses being different on my two hands.

Of course, incense, candles, beaded curtains, and a fake Russian Accent all add to the "credibility" of the Reading.

There are, in my opinion, People who actually do have a Gift of Prophecy. As I stated my opinion in our Journey Through the Bible about The Holy Spirit, God's Gifts are irrevocable and are still in operation today. However, with the proliferation of Information on the Internet, as well as increased Spiritual Warfare in these Perilous Times, would-be fortune-tellers can find out anything they want about you, without even meeting you or touching your calloused fingertips. These two criteria are the barest minimum qualifications for a Prophet:

1. It has to come true the way the prophet said it would.
2. It has to agree with The Revealed Word of God.

If a "prophet" says that God told me to tell YOU to break God's Law, then you know it's not The Holy Spirit speaking. It might be some kind of spirit, but it's NOT the Holy One.

To be clear, God tells us in His Word not to go to "fortune-tellers" anyway, so I'll keep my calloused fingertips away from them. 😁 And, for the record, I don't have any ink of my own, but my congregation at Biker Church had enough to float a battleship. Many of the Brothers had ink that they regretted, but it costs more (and hurts more) to get it removed than it did to get it done in the first place.

Balaam was a "Prophecy Mercenary", or a "Prophet For Hire". It seemed that he would contact whatever "god" his client believed in, and was skilled at flattering the petitioner to the best economic advantage. Perhaps he used visual clues, like "Madam Ruby", to convince clients of his credibility, and his reputation had spread far and wide. King Balak of Moab had heard about him, and sent his emissaries to Balaam to hire him to curse Israel.

Balaam was offered a big reward for this service, but something, or SOMEONE, was holding him back. He was hearing from the God of the Israelites, the One True God, warning him NOT to take this commission. The king persists though, and Balaam sets out on his journey. Despite the incredible Supernatural Warnings to not go on the journey (his Donkey actually talks, telling him NOT to go) Balaam ends up on a mountain looking down at the Israelites, ready to pronounce a curse.

Here's where it really gets interesting: Balaam opens his mouth to curse, and out come Blessings! It's probably the First time in his life that he's actually Prophesying. He even comes up with a messianic prophecy (A Star Shall Come Out of Jacob), and the king, who has paid big bucks for this, starts paying more money for a prophecy that he likes better. It keeps escalating until the king FIRES Balaam.

One would think that, after such an experience, Balamm would give up the Fortune-Telling Business, and set his heart upon the One True God. That would be nice, but the Bible doesn't state that. In fact, Balaam is killed a few chapters later.

He Didn't See THAT Coming.
