🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(6/17/25)[Prayer]

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Deuteronomy 4:21-29

21 The Lord was angry with me because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the Lord your God is giving you as your inheritance. 22 I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land. 23 Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. 24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

25 After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. 27 The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. 29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

An adult voice student of mine went to Texas on Vacation. When she returned, her phone was full of pictures, several of which were of her standing next to the grave of Rock Guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn. While I'm a fan of SRV's guitar playing, I thought that the gravesite adulation was a little weird.

A similar cult surrounds the gravesite of singer Jim Morrison, in Paris's Père Lachaise Cemetery. For a long time after Morrison's death, the cemetery had a difficult time maintaining the singer's gravesite, due to all the "memorabilia" and graffiti that visitors left behind there. Since most of "THE DOORS" fans are now in their 70s and 80s, the problem may have burned itself out.

Imagine if Moses had crossed the Jordan with his people, led Israel in The Promised Land for a while, and then died of Old Age. The People, already prone to idolatry, would have erected a huge monument to him, much like one to the Pharaohs of Egypt. Giant Pylons, a Huge Pyramid, and maybe even (horror!) a colossal statue of Moses could have possibly marked the place of his burial. After all, the people had been immersed in that culture for over 400 years. Even if there hadn't been an "official" shrine built, the "unofficial" ones would have popped up. Its human nature.

Moses wasn't happy with this arrangement. He knew that it was his impulsive anger and disrespect towards God that barred him from The Promised Land. But, like Adam in the garden, he blames the people for getting him so upset that he struck the Rock after God told him not to. (You made me do it!)

I believe that if it hadn't been the Rock Incident, it would have been something else that would have prevented Moses from Crossing the Jordan.

Moses accepts this judgment, and goes to the mountaintop to get a view of the promised land, before he disappears from the planet. Only God knows where he is buried, but there are legends about the Archangel Michael and Satan arguing over the body of Moses (See Jude 1:9). Satan would like nothing better than to make Moses a "god" and lead the people astray.

After all, if someone can be a "god" just because he's a good guitar player, why not?
