đşđ¸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem đŽđą(6/9/25)[Prayer]

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Numbers 32:1-42
The Transjordan Tribes
32Â The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. 2Â So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said, 3Â âAtaroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beonâ 4Â the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israelâare suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. 5Â If we have found favor in your eyes,â they said, âlet this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.â
6Â Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, âShould your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here? 7Â Why do you discourage the Israelites from crossing over into the land the Lord has given them? 8Â This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to look over the land. 9Â After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them. 10Â The Lordâs anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath: 11Â âBecause they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacobâ 12Â not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.â 13Â The Lordâs anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.
14Â âAnd here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the Lord even more angry with Israel. 15Â If you turn away from following him, he will again leave all this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.â
16Â Then they came up to him and said, âWe would like to build pens here for our livestock and cities for our women and children. 17Â But we will arm ourselves for battle[a] and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land. 18Â We will not return to our homes until each of the Israelites has received their inheritance. 19Â We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.â
20Â Then Moses said to them, âIf you will do thisâif you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle 21Â and if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before himâ 22Â then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the Lord.
23Â âBut if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. 24Â Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.â
25Â The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, âWe your servants will do as our lord commands. 26Â Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will remain here in the cities of Gilead. 27Â But your servants, every man who is armed for battle, will cross over to fight before the Lord, just as our lord says.â
28Â Then Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and to the family heads of the Israelite tribes. 29Â He said to them, âIf the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you, you must give them the land of Gilead as their possession. 30Â But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan.â
31Â The Gadites and Reubenites answered, âYour servants will do what the Lord has said. 32Â We will cross over before the Lord into Canaan armed, but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan.â
33Â Then Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashanâthe whole land with its cities and the territory around them.
34Â The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, 35Â Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, 36Â Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks. 37Â And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh and Kiriathaim, 38Â as well as Nebo and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.
39Â The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there. 40Â So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there. 41Â Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.[b] 42Â And Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah after himself.

Psalm 74
A Maskil of Asaph.
1 O God, why do you cast us off for ever?
Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Remember your congregation, which you acquired long ago,
which you redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage.
Remember Mount Zion, where you came to dwell.
3 Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins;
the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary.
4 Your foes have roared within your holy place;
they set up their emblems there.
5 At the upper entrance they hacked
the wooden trellis with axes.*
6 And then, with hatchets and hammers,
they smashed all its carved work.
7 They set your sanctuary on fire;
they desecrated the dwelling-place of your name,
bringing it to the ground.
8 They said to themselves, âWe will utterly subdue themâ;
they burned all the meeting-places of God in the land.
9 We do not see our emblems;
there is no longer any prophet,
and there is no one among us who knows how long.
10 How long, O God, is the foe to scoff?
Is the enemy to revile your name for ever?
11 Why do you hold back your hand;
why do you keep your hand in* your bosom?
12 Yet God my King is from of old,
working salvation in the earth.
13 You divided the sea by your might;
you broke the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan;
you gave him as food* for the creatures of the wilderness.
15 You cut openings for springs and torrents;
you dried up ever-flowing streams.
16 Yours is the day, yours also the night;
you established the luminaries* and the sun.
17 You have fixed all the bounds of the earth;
you made summer and winter.
18 Remember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs,
and an impious people reviles your name.
19 Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild animals;
do not forget the life of your poor for ever.
20 Have regard for your* covenant,
for the dark places of the land are full of the haunts of violence.
21 Do not let the downtrodden be put to shame;
let the poor and needy praise your name.
22 Rise up, O God, plead your cause;
remember how the impious scoff at you all day long.
23 Do not forget the clamour of your foes,
the uproar of your adversaries that goes up continually.

Kryst'l, who was majoring in Music (Voice and Piano), had to leave college in her Sophomore Year to help her Mom who was battling cancer. Two years later, her Mom was seemingly Cancer-Free, and Kryst'l wanted to go back to College, but as a Junior. She didn't want to have to repeat her Sophomore year, and I was hired to tutor her to perform an Audition and Interview to determine if she could advance to the next level. We chose Bach's "Two Part Invention #8" as her piano piece, and "Deep River" as her Vocal Audition. We also had to review two years worth of Music Theory (very dry stuff), and fit all of this into one hour a week for ten weeks. That was like cramming two years of College into Ten Hours. She did great, though, and Passed both the Audition and the Interview, and was able to enter her Junior Year that Fall.
"Deep River" speaks of "crossing the Jordan". In some circles, this actually means dying, and going to Heaven. At the time I was training Kryst'l, the Old Spirituals had fallen from favor, especially among the "elite" liberals who preside over College Admissions. I imagined them disqualifying Kryst'l for "Political Incorrectness" or some other nonsense. It was helpful that she was African-American, had a warm, soulful, voice, and was a talented artist who could interpret the song in such a way that there wasn't a dry eye in the joint. That's my Kryst'l!â
It's hard to imagine that, after Forty Years of Wandering in the Desert, there were two and a half tribes that didn't want to cross the Jordan with the rest of Israel. The East Bank looked good enough for them. Moses was aghast, and fearful that this was a repeat of the disaster at Kadesh Barnea, when the People were afraid to enter The Promised Land. God's Wrath was such that they were stuck in the desert for Forty Years, until the generation that refuse to enter into God's Promise had died off. It wasn't until the leaders of the Tribes assured that they would fight for Israel in the Promised Land, and then return home to their families in the "Transjordan" area. That was an acceptable arrangement. Still, from the writings of Moses, we can see that he found it troubling. Moses himself had been denied entry due to his temper tantrum and disrespect striking the rock, and yet, here were people who were permitted entry, but chose to stay behind.
If we use the analogy of "Crossing Jordan" being the "passing on" of a Believer, with Heaven on "The Other Side", it fits the story. There is an old saying that:
"Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven,
But Nobody wants To Die".
It may be a Deep River, but my real Home is "Over Jordan".

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
Side note:
In the Gospel of Matthew, we see what happened to the descendent of the tribe of Gad—the Gadarenes.
They became pig farmers and would rather have their pigs than Jesus.
