🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(6/7/25)[Prayer]

Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Numbers 19:1-22

The Water of Cleansing

19 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 2 “This is a requirement of the law that the Lord has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke. 3 Give it to Eleazar the priest; it is to be taken outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence. 4 Then Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the tent of meeting. 5 While he watches, the heifer is to be burned—its hide, flesh, blood and intestines. 6 The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer. 7 After that, the priest must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water. He may then come into the camp, but he will be ceremonially unclean till evening. 8 The man who burns it must also wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he too will be unclean till evening.

9 “A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They are to be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing; it is for purification from sin. 10 The man who gathers up the ashes of the heifer must also wash his clothes, and he too will be unclean till evening. This will be a lasting ordinance both for the Israelites and for the foreigners residing among them.

11 “Whoever touches a human corpse will be unclean for seven days. 12 They must purify themselves with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then they will be clean. But if they do not purify themselves on the third and seventh days, they will not be clean. 13 If they fail to purify themselves after touching a human corpse, they defile the Lord’s tabernacle. They must be cut off from Israel. Because the water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on them, they are unclean; their uncleanness remains on them.

14 “This is the law that applies when a person dies in a tent: Anyone who enters the tent and anyone who is in it will be unclean for seven days, 15 and every open container without a lid fastened on it will be unclean.

16 “Anyone out in the open who touches someone who has been killed with a sword or someone who has died a natural death, or anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.

17 “For the unclean person, put some ashes from the burned purification offering into a jar and pour fresh water over them. 18 Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to take some hyssop, dip it in the water and sprinkle the tent and all the furnishings and the people who were there. He must also sprinkle anyone who has touched a human bone or a grave or anyone who has been killed or anyone who has died a natural death. 19 The man who is clean is to sprinkle those who are unclean on the third and seventh days, and on the seventh day he is to purify them. Those who are being cleansed must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and that evening they will be clean. 20 But if those who are unclean do not purify themselves, they must be cut off from the community, because they have defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on them, and they are unclean. 21 This is a lasting ordinance for them.

“The man who sprinkles the water of cleansing must also wash his clothes, and anyone who touches the water of cleansing will be unclean till evening. 22 Anything that an unclean person touches becomes unclean, and anyone who touches it becomes unclean till evening.”

If I had come across this Passage fifteen years ago, during the early years of this Thread, I would have probably dismissed it as an Ancient Law that disappeared after the Second Temple was destroyed in 70AD. Even the most pious, Torah-Observant Jewish People that I knew didn't go around looking for the perfect red cow to slaughter. Bible Scholars knew about this Passage certainly, but assumed that it was something that would not be practiced ever again.

Now, however, there are People who want to build a Third Temple in Jerusalem, and have been busy creating all the tools and furnishings according to the descriptions in the Torah. A farm in Texas USA has provided several red cows, and there is renewed interest in this Ancient Ritual.

Of Course, the "Real Estate" for the building of the Third Temple is very specific, and can't be moved somewhere else. To complicate matters, there is a mosque on the site, and the famous Dome of the Rock, the golden dome that dominates the view of Jerusalem. People have been fighting over this particular spot since David purchased it from Arunah (Deed Signed, Sealed, and Registered in the Bible!), and tensions are flaring. The mere presence of the Red Heifer means that somebody is up to something.

Tragically, the hideous invasion of October 7, 2023 has been attributed to the presence of the Red Heifer in Jerusalem. I'm not theorizing this. A Hamas Terrorist, stated exactly that in an interview. The very name of the "operation" (which murdered woman, children, babies, old people, and concert goers) was "Al Aksa Flood". "Al Aksa" is the name of the mosque that sits on the Temple Mount. The sacrificing of the Red Heifer would signify the Israeli intention to rout the mosque from its position, purify the site, and build the Third Temple.

Not everybody thinks that this is a good idea. Many Jewish People say that ONLY The Messiah can rebuild the Temple. Christians say that Jesus is "The Temple" and already fulfilled the Torah. Still other Christians believe that the Temple has to be rebuilt before Jesus can Return. Muslims just want to hold on to what they've held since the 8th Century. Politically, it is an enormous bombshell. While most readers of this Thread might not take the Red Heifer seriously, a LOT of People DO.

It's not really about the cow, though. It's about the WATER that is mixed with the ashes of the cow. This is the "Water of Purification". This water was necessary in all of the rituals that involved spiritual cleansing. Even being in the same tent with a dead body (without touching anything) made a person ritually unclean. It wasn't a matter of bacteria or actual dirt, but a spiritual uncleanness.

However, what does one get when mixing ashes with beef tallow and water? Any Pilgrim Housewife or Pioneer Woman on the Prairie can tell you what she makes for her family with those ingredients.

It's called SOAP.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Interesting.

Just a note: None of the commentators that I've read have made the connection between The Red Heifer's Water of Cleansing to Soapmaking. I grew up in New England and visited many historical places, Plymouth, Old Sturbridge Village, Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, and the Fairbanks House in Dedham, MA. All of these "Living Museums" demonstrated Weaving, Blacksmithing, Candle making, Spinning, and Soapmaking. The ingredients were always the same: Wood Ashes that, mixed with water became lye, and beef tallow. When these ingredients were combined in a precise manner, it became soap.

Soapmaking probably doesn't use lye anymore, but that's how it was done in the old days.

Psalm 11

To the leader. Of David.

1 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to me,
‘Flee like a bird to the mountains;*
2 for look, the wicked bend the bow,
they have fitted their arrow to the string,
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.
3 If the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?’

4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes behold, his gaze examines humankind.
5 The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked,
and his soul hates the lover of violence.
6 On the wicked he will rain coals of fire and sulphur;
a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For the Lord is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.
