Ryan Day Departs 3ABN, Launches ‘Re-Think (Seventh-day) Adventism’

On Saturday, April 12, former Amazing Facts evangelist Ryan Day—until very recently the general manager of Three Angels Broadcasting Network’s (3ABN) Praise Him Music Network—publicly announced his departure from both 3ABN and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

In a YouTube livestream titled “Ryan Day Update” on his newly-created Re-Think Adventism channel, Day cited longstanding theological doubts and a religious culture he felt discourages honest questioning as primary reasons for his decision.

Originally from northeast Arkansas, Day’s public ministry trajectory began after he earned a degree in education, focusing on music and history. After graduating, he and his wife Stephanie felt called to evangelism. Day spent five years as a full-time evangelist with Amazing Facts. His musical aptitude brought him to 3ABN in 2018, where he started as an assistant to former general manager of the Praise Him Music Network Tim Parton, and later assumed his predecessor’s position in 2022. Day also served on the 3ABN pastoral team, contributing to programs like the Sabbath School Panel and 3ABN Today.

A prominent evangelist and staple in conservative Adventist media, Day now says he can no longer support some of the denomination’s key doctrines, such as the investigative judgment or the church’s claims about the writings of Ellen G. White. Insisting his intent is not to attack Adventism, Day launched his YouTube channel to create space for what he called “honest, respectful, and prayerful investigation” into Adventist teachings. His decision, shaped by over nearly three years of private study and spiritual reflection, has sparked strong reactions within Adventist circles and has drawn concern from institutional leaders.

For over two hours on YouTube live, Day walked viewers through his spiritual journey—from his first encounter with Adventist doctrines to the seeds of doubt that eventually informed his decision to walk away. His tone was careful but clear, injecting prayer, personal accounts, and theological reflections into his “reconsideration” of Adventist belief.

“I still consider many Adventists my brothers and sisters,” Day said early in the video. “But I’ve reached a point where I can no longer, in good conscience, stand behind certain teachings of the church, or the way questions are shut down when people try to ask them.”

Day first encountered Adventist teachings as a child through family influences. He began preaching core Adventist doctrines—Sabbath, the Second Coming, health message, and anti-rapture theology—before he formally joined the church in 2011. Despite aligning with these Adventist views, he remained hesitant about White, the church’s prophetess, whose writings Adventists often cite alongside scripture.

“I just wanted to be a Bible Christian,” he recalled. “I wasn’t down with Ellen White at first.”

It was not until a pastor encouraged him to read Steps to Christ that Day began warming up to White’s teachings. Over time, his ministry became saturated with both Scripture and her writings. He attended the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism and landed a staff role with the organization as a speaker. But as Day’s public presence grew, so did his private doubts—especially around the church’s unique doctrine of the investigative judgment. Adventism’s 1844 sanctuary teaching and its eschatological framework troubled Day from early on. “Even when I was at Amazing Facts and later on 3ABN,” he said, “there were parts of it I simply could not defend from the Bible alone.”

He described numerous attempts to study the doctrine using church materials like Light Bearers’ Unsealing Daniel, and said that while he accepted it “by faith,” he was never fully convinced it was exegetically defensible. But what bothered him more than his concerns about investigative judgement was the culture of silence surrounding doubt.

“There’s this repeated claim that ‘all our doctrines can be proven from the Bible alone,’” he said. “But when you try to ask, ‘Okay, where is that in the Bible?’ people get nervous. And sometimes they treat you like you’re spiritually sick for even asking.”

Ironically, Day says it was a quote from White that catalyzed his deeper disillusionment. In several places, White is quoted as saying “the truth loses nothing under close investigation.” This phrase gave Day permission to ask the very questions he felt were long buried beneath loyalty and career.

By late 2022, he had committed to a deep dive into both White’s writings and the Adventist theology, determined to either reaffirm or re-evaluate his beliefs. His study began in earnest—with no external prompt, he says—though he credits former Amazing Facts vice president-turned-Adventist-critic Allen Davis for articulating many of the doubts he shared.

“If the truth is the truth, it should stand up to scrutiny,” Day said. “I wasn’t looking for a way out. I was praying that I’d find stronger confirmation of Adventism. But the more I studied, the more inconsistencies I saw.”

Day’s growing internal conflict collided with his public ministry at 3ABN. While he repeatedly stated that he appreciated his time there and harbored no bitterness, he described an institutional environment where deviation from expected theological positions was quietly discouraged.

“There were times on 3ABN that I taught things wrong on air and had to be corrected by one of my peers,” he said. “Then I had to go back on air and publicly eat crow. That’s part of growth, yes—but it also showed me how tightly controlled the narrative had to be.”

Screenshot from Day’s YouTube livestream. A turning point came after Day replied to a social media post someone made quoting White on the subject of eating meat. He responded, “Are you aware that [this] contradicts the Bible, and therefore we are not to consider those statements inspired nor authoritative?”

Soon after, he was called into the administrative office at 3ABN and questioned for publicly expressing theological concerns. The meeting, he said, made it clear that challenging White’s authority—even respectfully—was viewed as undermining the ministry’s foundation.

Day began to feel constrained—not just by doctrinal expectations, but by what he called an “unspoken rule against expressing spiritual uncertainty.” He recalled that even voicing a challenging White quote would elicit concern: “Are you okay, Brother Day? Are you doubting?”

Day did not publicly state whether he was dismissed or resigned, only hinting at “disagreements in theology” and “respectful parting.”

Day’s announcement has elicited an array of emotional, theological, and institutional responses. Many commenters expressed support, sharing their own journeys of questioning Adventist doctrines, especially around White, the investigative judgment, and assurance of salvation. For these viewers, Day’s honesty and transparency were refreshing and resonated with their experiences of deconstruction and reevaluation. Others, however, voiced strong disappointment and concern, accusing Day of hypocrisy for preaching beliefs he now rejects and warning that he is being misled or misleading others. Some likened his departure to a prophetic falling away, while a few suggested spiritual deception or an unresolved personal sin.

The controversy also spread to Day’s home church. John Lomacang, pastor of Thompsonville Adventist Church where Day previously worshipped and served, publicly addressed the issue during a recent Sabbath service, cautioning members to be wary of Day’s new online content. In response, Day acknowledged Lomacang’s comments with disappointment, stating that he was saddened by how his departure was portrayed but emphasized that he harbors no bitterness.

“I get why Pastor John said what he did,” he reflected. “He’s trying to protect his flock. But the assumption is that I’ve apostatized and that anyone who listens to me is in danger. That’s not the spirit I’m coming from.”

Day’s new Re-Think Adventism YouTube channel is intended as a platform to explore the very questions he felt he could not ask within the church. He emphasized that the channel is not meant to mock or slander, but to offer “a safe space for difficult conversations.”

“This isn’t about bashing the church. I still love Adventists,” Day said. “But I think we need a space to ask hard questions without being labeled as heretics.”

While he has not yet outlined a formal theological alternative to Adventism, Day says future videos will explore his evolving views on White, the sanctuary doctrine, remnant theology, and more. “I’m not done seeking truth,” he said. “I just know I can’t keep doing it inside a framework that doesn’t allow for honest doubt.”

Day’s exit from 3ABN is the latest in a rising pattern of public departures from Adventist ministry roles, particularly among those who challenge traditional interpretations or raise difficult theological questions. His story mirrors that of Chris Mindanao, a young pastor in the New Jersey Conference, who in October 2024 resigned after publicly challenging Adventism’s traditional interpretation of the “seal of God” and “mark of the beast.” Mindanao argued that the Holy Spirit, not Sabbath observance, is the true seal of God according to the New Testament—a stance that diverged sharply from the prophetic writings of White. Like Day, he emphasized his intent was not to tear down the church, but to promote honest, biblical dialogue.

Both cases reflect broader tensions within Adventism—between doctrinal preservation and theological exploration, between institutional oversight and personal conviction. Whether emerging from pulpit ministry or media platforms, these resignations underscore a generational and hermeneutical shift: younger pastors and evangelists are increasingly calling for space to reexamine teachings rooted in White’s writings through a rigorous, Bible-centered lens. While church leaders often see such departures as apostasies in disguise, others view them as evidence of a community struggling to reconcile 19th-century frameworks with 21st-century questions.

As of now, 3ABN has not released an official statement regarding Day’s departure.

“I learned so much at 3ABN,” Day reflected. “I don’t regret my time there. But I had to be honest about where I was. And it just got to the point where I couldn’t go on pretending.”

Lee and Mary Miller from Mississippi were exposed to Doug Batchelor’s ministry at Amazing Facts and were thrilled at the Adventist Church’s emphasis on the Reformation. They were also inspired by the biblical truths that they were learning, and began sharing them at their Baptist church where Lee was part of the leadership team and a Sunday School teacher. Here is their story, in brief.

Baptist couple joined the Adventist church because of our emphasis on the protestant reformation in the context of Bible prophecy. 2500 people a day join the Adventist church.

The Bible and the Bible alone. The creed of the protestant. A reformation that will continue to the return of Christ.

Because scripture reveals who the great counterfeit is. And the word is getting out to those not impressed by cathedrals, or display or men in flowing scarlet and white robes that hold up gold cups.

Men and women who want to personally the lowly and humble savior. Our king!

Although I had never heard of this Ryan Day, apparently his departure is quite a bit different from a small-time Joe and Suzzy from some Mississippi Baptist church. I understand that Ryan was very significant with a huge following in the denomination.

Did David Koresh have the same kind of message of this Ryan guy, or did he just splinter off and bring some with him?

He has issues with the preadvent judgment clearly described in Daniel 7 and 8.

Dr. Desmond Ford was among the first prominent Bible scholars to question this sound Bible doctrine.

The evangelicals do not want to believe there is a preadvent judgment. If course this makes no sense. How else can God make a decision about whether a professed Christian is true to the faith.

Anyone can claim to be a Christian.

The Bibles says it is appointed unto man to die once and then the judgment. Peter said judgment begins with house of the lord.

John vision is in the heavenly sanctuary. It was the sanctuary where final judgment was conducted. The most holy.

Revelation says the judgment hour has come. In revelation 16 the angels fly out of the temple, the sanctuary, declaring it is done!

Jesus our lamb, Jesus our priest, Jesus our judge. All must come before the judgement seat of God.

Adventist theology is Bible based. Adventist eschatology is Bible based. The judgment is Bible based. And Daniel 8:14 is the longest time prophecy in the Bible.

This man was a guest on a Adventist television network. Young and to my knowledge... not a recognized Bible scholar in our church.

I am familiar with almost every one and have met many. Read their books etc.

I have never read or heard this guy... I saw him a few times on 3abn. He was never deep or compelling. I doubt he has an advanced degree ...but I pray for him. Whoever he is...

Looks like the wingnuts don't believe their "god" is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.

It looks like ebby has posted again. Why do I always feel dumber after I read his ravings? Read Isa. 55:8 to know how little you know about God and His ways. He has a plan. He has a process. We can't fully understand it at this time. Until then, seek Him and do what He says.

What does that have to do with the judgement described and explained in the Bible?

Forget your priest. Go buy a Bible and read daniel 7. Hurry so you won’t keep embarrassing yourself

2500 people a day join the Adventist church.

yeah what about all the people who leave, I bet they don't want to talk about that, and are the 2500 people in the States, or Jamaica, or some other country where the denomination built their schools and the only other Church/denomination for all practical purposes of noting is the Catholic Church.
