Yesterday, I ranted a bit about how our Culture has appropriated Noah's Dove and Olive Branch as a Symbol for Peace. Today I was going to do the same about the Rainbow, which has been used to symbolize all kinds of things, from Unity to Diversity, Leprechauns and Unicorns, and, in recent years, sexual identity. It was going to be some rant! But God had other plans. He led me to a story I wrote right here on this site about His Provision, which was the Original meaning of the rainbow. Here are the first words of God's Covenant with Noah:

“As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.” (Genesis 8:22 NIV)

As any Covenant has two sides to it, Noah is also given simple instructions about living a life pleasing to God. These instructions are now called The Noahide Laws. Here's my story from 2019:

Most of you know that I am an avid motorcyclist and have been riding on two wheels for over 50 years. I don't think I have ever shared the following story, but if I have, it bears repeating!

People who don't ride sometimes assume that a motorcycle has all the same standard equipment as the family car. This is far from the truth. First of all, it is standard transmission, with a clutch, several forward gears, neutral, and no reverse. Some bikes, but not all, are equipped with a tachometer which clues the rider into a gear change, but an experienced rider goes completely with the sound and feel of the engine. As soon as the sound and feel hit the right pitch, the body goes into "gear" shifting gears. My riding is like that. I do not have a tachometer. Another "feature" I do not have is a gas gauge, and so I have no way of knowing if the tank is empty or full (except by weight), but I devised a way of knowing when it is time to gas up.

On the odometer (which IS a requirement), there is a little "trip-meter". I set it to zero every time I fill the tank (with High-Test of course!) and when it reaches 120 miles, I know the tank is empty with just a little bit of sludge left in reserve to limp to a gas station. My late husband and I had worked out a system of hand signals when it was time to turn off the highway for gas.

Back in the 1990's Mike and I were riding to the Rolling Thunder Parade in Washington DC. Somewhere in the hills of upstate NY at dusk, I noticed my trip-meter inching up to the 100 mark. I signaled Mike to take the next exit, as there was a highway sign boasting three gas stations. Alas...one was out-of-business, and the other two were closed for the night. OK...back onto the highway. Ten miles later, I saw another sign. We went down the exit ramp and rode for three miles, but there was no gas station to be seen anywhere, so we headed back to the Interstate. My trip-meter was now reading 118.

Crossing the State Line and now in New Jersey, I looked down at the trip-meter and it was now reading 130 and the bike was still running. I did a strange thing. I laid my left (clutch) hand on the gas tank and prayed, remembering the story of Elisha and the Widow's Oil. Then I replaced my hand on the clutch and saw the Jersey Turnpike looming ahead. I knew there was gas on the turnpike, but they have to pump it for you, which I don't like (silly NJ law).

Anyway, we finally roared into a well-lit gas station on the Jersey Turnpike and I opened the tank and sat while the attendant filled it. Glug, glug, glug, went the gas pump, dispensing more gallons than I had ever remembered pumping into my tank. It was bone-dry. I looked at the trip-meter before resetting it and it read 160. And...I had not even switched over to the sludge in reserve. My husband marveled at the performance of my little stripped-down bike. But then I told him about the prayer!

My girls and I were on a road trip to NY and had a similar experience with the car. We made it to a gas station just as it was closing and couldn’t sell me gas. I turned prayed aloud with the girls that we could make it to the next had station without break down. The owner heard me and let me buy gas!! God is good!!

There’s no doubt the homosexual movement chose God’s rainbow as their symbol to mock His covenant. It’s not going to end well for them.
