“ citizenship (I believe getting American citizenship for a foreigner requires one to renounce all other citizenships, but not the other way around”

This is what it says in the oath of citizenship to become an American citizen, but people are not required to give up their previous country’s passport so it is a sham. I am against all dual citizenship. It simply should not be allowed.

No one can have allegiance to two countries. No one should be allowed to vote in two different countries’ elections. What if those two countries go to war against each other?

Some members of Congress have dual citizenship. We should at least know who they are and to what second country.

He’s apparently spoken out against some of those things. He’s been reported to have said that “The promotion of gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don’t exist.”

He has also spoken out against the “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.”

To: Tell It Right
cardinal Mamberti uttered the words 'Habemus papam!' Latin for 'We have a pope!'

Then the cardinal could have said, "¡Hacemos papas!", Spanish for "We make fries!"

He’s from South Holland, meaning he grew up there, or had a parish there?

Both the US and Peru allow dual citizenship.

I think people becoming naturalized US citizens often can keep their citizenship of other countries, but it really comes down to the policy of the other country.

What I heard on the radio was:

Centrist: (Liberal)

Progressive: (Commie)

Seems to be another Francis.

We will see.

He spoke in Italian and then switched to Spanish, recalling his many years spent as a missionary and then archbishop of Chiclayo, Peru.

As a missionary I will assume he was proselytizing.

I would hope that the new Pope will reverse Francis's standing against Catholic evangelism.

"And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

You are not doing the will of God if you don't try to convert non-Christians to Christ.

It baffles me that a Pope ever said such things.

He's a Francis devotee. Preaches open-borders ... blah blah blah ...

This Pope and clerics like him are one of the reasons many Catholics are leaving the Catholic church.

If he was honest, he would have selected Francis II as his “papal” name.

Another Liberal Commie Pope.
Except this new one was born and raised in America.
New Pope same as dead Frankie.

The cardinals apparently haven’t got that message yet. They insist on pontificating about things they don’t know much about (politics) while neglecting scriptural teaching and evangelism. I don’t know what their purpose is anymore.

If he continues crackdown on the Latin Mass, the sudden growth in the Catholic Church will come to a halt. It’s the only part of the church that’s growing and it consists of young people people.

Nope.

The Oath of Allegiance for U.S. citizenship is as follows:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.".

He is not the “successor to Francis,” but to St. Peter.

“I wonder why they chose him...”

Catholics voted for Trump. They, like the overwhelming majority wanted border control and repatriation of illegals to their countries. They wanted economic reform. They wanted sanity restored against the Marxist agitprop of the past decade.

In short, the church needs to control and corral “errant” Catholics. The end of the money pipeline to NGOs is also a huge problem for the hierarchy.

Francis seemed to loathe America and especially Americans with a particularly glaring gaze. What better way than to bring in an American albeit in name only at this point since he has more in common with Peru and South America than every day USA Catholics. I suspect American Catholics will be lectured harshly for their greed, patriotism, and closed mindedness toward the rest of the world as it is forgotten that Americans have been bled dry by the rest of the world. If this sounds cynical, then yes, I confess to being a cynic . We shall see what comes of this man's election.
