Water, Rivers, and Streams in the Bible
Genesis 2:10-14

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

Our Father In Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised
And Worshiped,
For You Alone Are Holy,
Righteous,
and Infinitely Just!

There is much speculation and fantasy about The Garden of Eden. From Milton's "Paradise Lost", to the "Peaceable Kingdom" paintings of Edward Hicks, to the Seventeen-Minute Jam "In A Gadda Da Vida" by Iron Butterfly, we humans long for this time of Innocence when we could walk and talk with God and the creatures He made for us. While some of us look back, others look forward to a time when The Messiah rules His Kingdom and the "wolf will lie down with the lamb". Wherever our hearts may lie, in past innocence or in future redemption, we long for "Paradise".

I remember once seeing a satirical map of the Middle East, showing the two major countries by the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers as "I RANT" and "I RAVE". At the time of the map, Ayatollah Khomeini was the ruler of "I RANT" and Saddam Hussein was the dictator of "I RAVE". The most recent ranters and ravers in that area are nothing new. The area known as "The Fertile Crescent" has been the scene of countless warfare, as Empires have conquered and been defeated, and vast armies have destroyed and rebuilt cities. The Tower of Babel is believed to have been built in that area, and Historians call it "The Cradle of Civilization", even if "civility" has not been a common trait.

Ur, the original home of Abraham, is in that vicinity, as were Babylon, Assyria, The Persian Empire, and hosts of other empires that have come and gone.

The two rivers that define this area are mentioned in Genesis. They were the Tigris and the Euphrates, which flowed from The Garden of Eden. We will see the Euphrates again and again throughout Scripture, even in the Book of Revelation at the very end.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
