Tomorrow will have the Last Posting in the "Names of God" Series. It was started upon suggestion of one of the Thread's faithful Readers, and began on February 11th, 2024. That means that we have been doing this segment for over a year. 😇

I'm up for suggestions for our next study. I was thinking of going back to Genesis, or maybe Isaiah. Also, I may do a different Translation if we are going to do a straight Narrative, like Historical Books. The King James is Wonderful for Psalms and other Poetry, but for a Story, perhaps the New American Standard or The NIV is more readable. Give me your input!

In the rotunda of the Dome of the Rock is this inscription in Arabic:

O People of the Book!
Do not exaggerate in your religion
nor utter aught concerning God save the truth.
The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary,
was only a Messenger of God, and His Word which He conveyed unto Mary,
and a spirit from Him. (Reference)

Christians who believe what The Bible says about Jesus are right to be affronted by this inscription. It was meant that way. However, it does show that, even in the Eighth Century, when the Dome of the Rock was built and "decorated", that Christians believed that Jesus The Messiah was the Son of God.

In Today's Reading we see Jesus quoting the Psalms. He is engaged in a little debate with some Pharisees concerning the Sonship of The Messiah. From the rest of the Chapter, one can conclude that this wasn't an honest debate. It was full of "GOTCHA" questions and attempts at entrapment, and Jesus wasn't playing.

By quoting Psalms in response to an argument, Jesus was affirming the Inspiration of Scripture. While David was the Songwriter, The Holy Spirit was his "Director". The Spirit of Truth affirms the Messiahship of Jesus, His Sonship, and His Divinity.

By the Way, Christians and Jews are no longer allowed inside the Dome of the Rock. That means that, even if one did read Arabic, a Christian would have no occasion to read that inscription, so the whole thing is rather moot.
