Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Lord's Day
The Vatican ^ | Roman Catholic Church

A day of grace and rest from work

2184 Just as God "rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done,"121 human life has a rhythm of work and rest. the institution of the Lord's Day helps everyone enjoy adequate rest and leisure to cultivate their familial, cultural, social, and religious lives.122

2185 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.123 Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. the faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health.

This section of the Catechism is found in part 3, section 2, called "The Ten Commandments." Article 3, the "third commandment." They moved the fourth commandment in the Bible which is the Sabbath to the 3rd commandment.

The Roman Catholic church official position on the commandment about the Sabbath or as they call it..the "Lord's day." It is different than the evangelical position where most evangelicals state under the new covenant, the 10 commandments are Jewish so they were nailed to the cross as far as the Sabbath goes. But when it comes to actually keeping Sunday in it's place, they differ from the Catechism above which calls it a day of rest. A day in which Catholics are to "refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder worship, joy proper to the Lord's day, performance of works of mercy, appropriate relaxation of mind and body......" etc.

And of course the “Apostolic Letter” written in 1998 by Pope John Paul called “Dies Domini” about the keeping of the Lord’s day.

The Catholic Church still believes in the 10 commandments. All 10. None were nailed to the cross. They just believe the weekly day of rest is a different day now from the original 10 commandments.

The theology in this letter by the Pope back then is very poor. But at least he didn’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Paul warned the nascent church of Judaizers that will twist Christs works back into laws that should be followed.

Gal 3: O foolish Galatians! Who has >>bewitched<< you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?

White is the witch.

Don’t make new rules, such as \when\ the day of rest must be celebrated).
Christ fulfilled the Commandments for us so we may stand naked and without fault before God in his day of judgement.
THERE, we find rest.

Everything else is sorcery and lies.

Protestant Seventh day Adventist Bible Scholar, Dr. Samuele Bacchiochi , who received his doctorate on the change of the Sabbath to Sunday, published the best book ever written on this subject called “From Sabbath to Sunday.”

A few years later, this brilliant Bible Scholar followed with “The Sabbath under Crossfire” and he talked about how the Catholic church seems to be changing it’s theology about the Sabbath.

For centuries it maintained it alone changed the holy day and took credit for it. “Who else would are change it.”

But he wrote that they were shifting a bit to make a case that the the first day of the week was kept by the early Christians in scripture. Most people who have not studied this issue would not know what this about.

It’s interesting to watch too. I posted Rome’s Challenge published in the Catholic Mirror over 100 years ago where the church not only ridiculed Protestants who keep Sunday, but looked at every first day mention in the new testament and utterly destroyed the idea the early apostolic church met on Sundays as a holy day.

My post got taken down because it was labeled bogus but the Catholic Mirror was indeed an actual Catholic church publication from the diocese in Baltimore where those articles appeared. It was some of the most scholarly work I have seen on this subject and it was by Roman Catholic theologians....

Thank you now.

I feel sorry for you because you are totally and completely biblically illiterate ... you are NOT alone ... though

First off Peter pens in IIPeter 3 .. there are THREE different heaven and earth ages ...

Peter pens that ONE day with the LORD is as a THOUSAND years ... Flesh man after Noah and that floooood to wipe out the hybrids ... man would be allowed 120 years ... Nowhere near the 969 years noted that Methuselah lives ...

>>>Christ fulfilled the Commandments for us so we may stand naked and without fault before God in his day of judgement.

I think you forgot the words right before Jesus said he came to fulfill the commandments. He said “think not that I have come to DESTROY the law.....not one jot or tittle will change till heaven and earth pass away.”

John sees the law in heaven, decades after Christ was crucified.......”Tabernacle of the Testimony”

And of course Paul said the law was holy just and good.

Beside, I bet you won’t think Christ fulfilling the law means I have been released from keeping it if I take your car.

Jesus himself....he delivered the woman caught in adultery from the condemnation of the law.....then guess what? He sent her right back to the law...”Go and sin no more”.....Sin is transgression of the law.

I bet when she saw that grace from her savior....obeying him was out of gratitude...not to earn salvation. He already gave it to her......

I’m going to start grading theology. Sorry....you get an F.

IF the shoe fits ... Peter wrote what he wrote ... and they do claim to be in possession of Peter’s keys ... except they do not... any salt of the earth bible scholar knows what Peter wrote ... check out what Peter said in Acts ... regarding the prophet Joel ... happening these very days by those that claim they are in possession of Peter’s keys .... YET NONE have a clue what the Key of David literally means ...

Sleep on ...

2184 Just as God “rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done,”
= = =

And what did God do on the eighth day?

And the ninth and tenth, and so on?

Was He doing more work?

Now you’re an expert on Catholicism too? Amazing! Is there anything you don’t know, or is just your opinions that are limitless?

The Adam was created on the ‘eighth’ day ... That would be after the seventh day...

Proof Genesis 2:
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth,

and there was not a man to till the ground.’

Duh, The Adam was formed/created to be a farmer.... The word eight means ‘new beginnings’...

They moved the fourth commandment in the Bible which is the Sabbath to the 3rd commandment.
......

They also changed Passover, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits to their Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

From the writings of Moses, it is very simple to know when the Passover falls ... The spring equinox is something no matter what man claims cannot change ... sadly the majority are clueless ....

Same applies to December 25th being the date of the conception of Christ ... which Luke describes .. There is nothing to give credibility to Mary being an immaculate conception ... both her mom and dad had sex ... unlike Mary who was unmarried and a virgin ...

Peter wrote much that is ignored ... and those that claim his keys are literally running the movement of that locust army Joel penned would be...

the Sabbath or as they call it..the "Lord's day.

They aren't the same thing. Nobody has moved the Sabbath; it's still on Saturday. In fact, in the Latin liturgical books, it calls Saturday "SABBATO".

The observance of the Sabbath is not, and never was, obligatory on Gentiles because it's part of the Jewish ceremonial law. The observance of the Lord's Day is obligatory on Christians.

What other of the 9 commandments are “ceremonial” or did God just decide, ahh heck, I’ll go ahead and put a ceremonial law with the laws about stealing and killing and lying and cheating and worshipping other Gods...

Weird.

From the writings of Moses, it is very simple to know when the Passover falls

Well ... that depends.

Passover falls on the 14th of Nisan. All Jewish months begin with a new moon, but how do you know which new moon begins the month of Nisan? In a lunar calendar, you have insert some "fudge factor" days to keep from getting out-of-sync with the sun. In the Jewish calendar, that's the month of "Adar II," which (when it happens) immediately precedes Nisan.

Jews between about AD 300 and AD 1200 developed systematic rules for deciding when to add the month of Adar II to the year, but the Jews in Jesus' time decided based on (a) astronomy; (b) agricultural observations; and (c) rabbinic decisions.

We can compute (a), but (b) and (c) are guesses, which is why it can be difficult to know exactly when Passover was in , e.g., AD 33.

I rememeber you. Your the guy that needs a Bible study on the difference between the Seventh day Sabbath made holy on the 7th day of creation, the weekly holy day that PREDATES sin. The weekly holy day that predates Jews. The weekly holy day that Jesus said was made for man. The weekly holy day that God put there with lying and stealing and cheating and killin......the weekly Sabbath day that is in the heart of the 10 commandments, the weekly sabbath day that Jesus said was made for man, the weekly sabbath day we will even be blessed with in the new earth....Isaiah 66......the weekly sabbath day that God said to REMEMBER, etc etc. etc. forever

And the other annual sabbaths and ceremonies that came AFTER sin and pointed to the cross and were done away with at the cross.

Even the Catholics still believe in the 10 commandments. They just happen to believe they can change em.....

I believe Dr. Bacchiochi himself admitted that Sunday worship was the norm among Christians by the late apostolic age or shortly thereafter.
