[Adventist Caucus] Jesus in the tomb of Joseph on Sabbath
Desire of Ages ^ | Ellen White

Posted on 04/19/2025 10:19:44 AM PDT by vespa300

At last Jesus was at rest. The long day of shame and torture was ended. As the last rays of the setting sun ushered in the Sabbath, the Son of God lay in quietude in Joseph's tomb. His work completed, His hands folded in peace, He rested through the sacred hours of the Sabbath day.

In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the Sabbath after Their work of creation. When “the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them” (Genesis 2:1), the Creator and all heavenly beings rejoiced in contemplation of the glorious scene. “The morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” Job 38:7. Now Jesus rested from the work of redemption; and though there was grief among those who loved Him on earth, yet there was joy in heaven. Glorious to the eyes of heavenly beings was the promise of the future. A restored creation, a redeemed race, that having conquered sin could never fall,—this, the result to flow from Christ's completed work, God and angels saw. With this scene the day upon which Jesus rested is forever linked. For “His work is perfect;” and “whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever.” Deuteronomy 32:4; Ecclesiastes 3:14. When there shall be a “restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:21), the creation Sabbath, the day on which Jesus lay at rest in Joseph's tomb, will still be a day of rest and rejoicing. Heaven and earth will unite in praise, as “from one Sabbath to another” (Isaiah 66:23) the nations of the saved shall bow in joyful worship to God and the Lamb.

So so beautiful and profound. The 2 greatest weeks in human history end on the sacred Sabbath. The work of creation and the work of redemption. Both complete and perfect and end on the Sabbath.

She quotes from scripture and alludes to the Sabbath in the new earth where we will worship him, our Lord, Jesus Christ....."from one Sabbath to another"...Isaiah 66:23.

She says the nations of the saved shall bow in joyful worship. We don't lift up a church or a person or an organization........we lift up Jesus the Christ. Creator and Redeemer. Sabbath blessings to all. He sleeps in death, but he will arise in hours.

What a powerful statement Ellen White makes. She says he died not from a spear thrust in his side. But that he died from a broken heart.

Quote..”He was slain by the sin of the world.”

The adventist singers, the “Heritage Singers”....and..”he died of a broken heart, it broke for you and me”

Beautiful.....just so beautiful. These are Seventh day Adventists. Protestants singing about Jesus. Singing about a living Christ......not a dead saint:

Singing about a living Christ......not a dead saint

Who sings about a "dead" saint? The saints in heaven are more alive than when they were here on earth. No pain, no sin, no bodily ills or limitations--only the glorious presence of God, the angels, and the other saints. The Book of Revelation shows the glorious activity of the saints--praising God and interceding on our behalf. No time for "soul sleep," that's for sure. 😂😂😂

Ok, let’s discuss. If the saints are alive in heaven as a disembodied soul......why all the talk about the 2nd coming and the resurrection from the Graves?

And if you say, oh, that’s just to be reunited the body with the soul........well, why would I ever want a body to confine and limit me....when I can be a disembodied soul and walk through things and float around and maybe even fly?

That kinda don’t make sense to me.

Does the disembodied soul have it’s own ears and when it reunites with the body, one set of ears goes away.....does this soul have organs? And hair, and eyes?

See, because in Genesis, we have the formula for what makes a “living soul”......dust plus God’s breath, or his “ruach”....life giving spirit and he “breathed” into the dust God formed with his own hands...and then.....man “Became” a living soul.

He wasn’t given a soul. He became a soul.

Then throughout the Bible, death is called a sleep. God tells Daniel, he’s going to go to is rest until he arises. and the list goes on and on and on.

It’s better if we stick to scripture then we don’t end up praying to ghosts.

1 Thessalonians 4 verse 16 and 17:

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Because it will not be body as we have now, it will be a glorified body:

1 Corinthians 15:51-55:
Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable nature must put on the imperishable, and this mortal nature must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is thy victory?
O death, where is thy sting?”
(see also Philippians 3:21 and Luke 24:39)

See, because in Genesis, we have the formula for what makes a “living soul”......dust plus God’s breath, or his “ruach”....life giving spirit and he “breathed” into the dust God formed with his own hands...and then.....man “Became” a living soul. He wasn’t given a soul. He became a soul.

Only the KJV uses the word "soul" in Genesis 2:7, virtually all other translations rendering it "a living being" or something similar. The Hebrew word used here (nephesh) literally means "a breathing being". If your interpretation (and thus your theology) of this hangs on a single archaic Bible translation, you are indeed on shaky ground, my friend.

Then throughout the Bible, death is called a sleep. God tells Daniel, he’s going to go to is rest until he arises. and the list goes on and on and on.

In the Bible "sleep" is merely a euphemism for death. You are misunderstanding it just like the disciples misunderstood it when Jesus told them Lazarus was asleep (John 11:11-14). He had to spell it out to them (like I'm spelling it out to you) that when he (and Daniel, and Paul) uses the euphemism of "sleep" he means death.

It’s better if we stick to scripture then we don’t end up praying to ghosts.

Or believing in unbiblical doctrines like "soul sleep".

Here is a more in-depth explanation: THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY

>>>Because it will not be body as we have now, it will be a glorified body:>>>

So I go from a spirit being to getting a glorified body?

Sounds like a demotion to me. Where do I apply to remain as a spirit where I can fly and walk through doors and stuff? Can you let me know.

I’ll take the spirit existence over any body any day thank you very much.

i.e.....none of your disembodied soul stuff is in the Bible. Read Genesis 2:7. There’s the formula for a soul. And when you die....you go back to dust. From dust I came, dust I shall return and sleep until that resurrection. That day.

The Bible talks about “that day”....over and over and over and over and over again. That day when Christ returns and the dead in Christ come up. That day, that day, that day.

Your church doesn’t talk much at all......about “That day.”

Seventh day Adventist Protestants read the Bible...and we are just so looking forward to......that day. That coming day when he shall appear in the clouds of heaven and the dead in Christ , yes in glorified bodies...and come up and see him....We weren’t ghosts in heaven before that.

We come up from the grave and the living are caught up together.

Your church brought in the disemobodied soul to make some serious cash. Getting people out of purgatory and also to pray to dead people instead of reading the Bible. The founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius Loyola didn’t know how to deal with the Protestants so he went looking for a spirit....to consult.

Luther went to the Bible.....the word. .

We are protestants. In fact, Seventh day Adventist have Luther as the “Man of the Millenium” he changed the world. He wasn’t perfect, nobody is. But boy did he change the world. Ellen White devotes 2 chapters to this giant man of God in her book “The Great Controversy”....a book that exposes the Papacy through and through.

I have addressed everything you have put here and you have not answered directly or refuted a thing. It’s obvious you are not interested in having a real discussion but only listening to yourself repeat your own misinformation. I’m done.

What happens to those who were cremated? That is one thing that freaks me out, because there is no more DNA, no body to put together.

"What happens to those who were cremated? That is one thing that freaks me out, because there is no more DNA, no body to put together."

It might be a problem for humans, but if God, who created the universe out of nothing, wants to make it happen (gather the remains of a person at the Resurrection from wherever they may be), he can do it without DNA tests or anything like that.

Jeremiah 32:17
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Matthew 19:26
"Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”"

Luke 1:37
"For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Ok. But I’m gonna go ahead and stick with scripture. The Dead know nothing. They are asleep like Lazarus was, like Daniel went to his rest. And they will come up at the resurrection.

Thank you

Ecclesiastes 9:5
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Daniel 12:13
13 “But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
New King James Version
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

And finally,, John 11:

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

I’m pretty sure the creator of the cosmos and figure out how to put a creamted body back together. The Catholic church burned thousands if not millions to death during the dark ages.

God can probably figure out how to bring them back even better than before. Afterall....he’s God. Thank you.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground— because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

Ecclesiastes 3:20
All go to one place; all come from dust, and all return to dust.

Ecclesiastes 12:7
before the dust returns to the ground from which it came and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Job 34:15
all flesh would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.
