At that time the punishment for sinners will be that they cease to exist.

In The Great Controversy she wrote, “How repugnant to every emotion of love and mercy, and even to our sense of justice, is the doctrine that the wicked dead are tormented with fire and brimstone in an eternally burning hell; that for the sins of a brief, earthly life they are to suffer torture as long as God shall live.”
How do the SDA's explain why Satan and his evil spirits have been in Hell so long?

First, allow me to say that I have no idea who Ellen White is. Never heard of her and have no idea. Thus, I do not judge her, or you.
Don’t even know if your statements on her teachings are accurate, or a straw man logical fallacy of her teachings.
That being said, you are “both” partially correct in your contentions.
Hell as a physical location does not exist. Hell as a perception of reality does exist.
Allow me to explain. The Bible is very accurate, just misunderstood. I speak from actual experiences and not just applying human logic to the written Words of the Bible.
Hell is what is experienced when a person holds onto sin and tries to be in the Pure Love of God. It is impossible for sin to exist in Heaven as it would perish. God’s Love and sin cannot exist in the same space. God’s Love casts out sin.
The fire described as being experienced in hell is a natural part of the purification process. It is not a judgement per se, but a reality in that a person attached to sin is tormented as the sin is being transformed and cleansed from them.
Just as if you try to breathe underwater, you will drown. No judgement, just real consequences. If you try to swim while trying to hold onto a sack of gold, your attachment to the gold will pull you under and you will drown. No judgement, just natural consequences of holding onto the gold. So it is when we hold onto sin and try to approach God.
A prayerful blessing for an evil person is like placing hot coals upon their head. They perceive the pain of God’s blessing cleansing their soul.
I actually see this, and it resembles one of those old electric bug zappers when a big moth flies into it.
This is exactly what happens when I do exorcisms or spirit releasement work. It is not me doing the work, but God’s Spirit flowing through me. The evil spirits scream and howl in response to the Light of God. They fear it will kill them, when actually it does not, it merely burns up their sin like a dense object that is placed in the high frequency of a microwave. It heats up and burns away as part of the transformation or purification process of their soul.
There are two types of evil souls that Jesus describes in the Bible. There are “demonic spirits” and “unclean spirits.”
The demonic spirits cannot be cleansed as they are so impure that they can only be cast out. They are the fallen angels.
The “unclean spirits” had a physical body at one time and were recruited by the demonic to do evil, but they are not evil. They do satan’s work out of fear that God’s Light will kill them. That is satan’s great lie. They still have the spark of God’s Light in their soul, but it is dim and they hide from it.
In an exorcism, they will scream at the presence of God’s Light. So I bring it closer and closer to them until they surrender. Then I allow God’s Light to touch them and they experience no pain. I show them that satan has lied to them.
When they open up and receive God’s pure Love, their soul is transformed instantly and they are allowed to approach Heaven where God’s Love is even stronger.
Their attachment to sin in the form of anger or fear was blocking them from approaching Heaven. After a session, they become Angel’s of the Light, assisting in redeeming other souls that have become unclean.
Sin is any obstacle to God’s Love in your soul.
Thus, the burning and torment of hell is perceived as real, but when you let go of sin you realize that it was just a perception.
I’ve died and crossed over to Heaven. It is very real and God’s Love is so strong that I did not want to return to my physical body. But God sent me back. There is not one day in over thirty five years since that experience that I did not want to die and return to Heaven. Returning to this earthly reality felt like my heart was ripped out.
The second coming is approaching fast, but it is far greater than the first. As the Lord’s Prayer states, “On Earth as it is in Heaven.” Heaven is coming to earth and it will be a New Pentecost, far greater than the first one.

Rather than just reading the Bible, use it as a road map to go within yourself and experience Heaven. You can do it.
Don’t try to convince others that your understanding of the Bible is correct until you experience it yourself. Seek ye first the Kingdon of God.
And just as Jesus describes in John 14, Jesus is in you, and our Father, God, that is in Jesus is also in you. Go within, beginning by asking His Holy Spirit to enter you and be your guide in interpreting the Bible as your roadmap.
Then you too, will do the things that Jesus does and even more, with Him in you.
Experiencing God is an experience, not a logical masterbation of God’s words.

Hell is not a purification. It’s literal. Jesus never calmed hell that.
He’ll has many literal interpretations. Words are just metaphors for a pattern of consciousness that has meaning.
Just as “water” can mean ice, liquid, or steam, or any combination thereof. Hell is just a word describing the perception of an experience.
If your soul is full of sin and you invite the Holy Spirit into you, you will experience hell. The burning sensations and torment will be great. I have experienced it.
Your physical body will quake and shake as you feel like you are on fire, as the sin is burned away, God’s Love will then flow into your soul to replace it in a beautiful experience.
any and all religions could be classified as “cults” in the most technical sense of the definition. and who gets to define what constitutes a cult...or not? you? no matter what YOU believe or DON’T believe, you are WRONG on BOTH accounts.
