We get a lot of expressions from Movies and the Media. Almost unconsciously, these lines become "Memes", and we use them frequently. With the technology available to us, these phrases can become animated "gifs", and adorn Social Media, websites, and Communications in general. My personal favorite is from the move Tombstone:



Another unforgettable "meme" is from the movie The Godfather.

"An Offer You Can't Refuse" sounds great. It would be too good to be true, so wonderful that nobody in his right mind would refuse such an offer. But we know what Vito Corleone really meant. Either take the "offer" or you're DEAD. Not much choice there.

Ezekiel was about to be given a daunting mission. His job was to Prophesy the utter destruction of Jerusalem by means of a Siege and Famine. This was to be done by a "Show and Tell" method, having Ezekiel lie on his side for weeks at a time, eating a thick bread made of funky ingredients, that is cooked over a dung fire. His prophecies would involve cutting off his hair, rotten figs and spoiled sashes, crawling through holes in a wall, and a skeleton army. His final "Show and Tell" is perhaps the most counter-intuitive: buying a plot of land, paying the money, registering the deed, and storing the deed in a safe place, while at the same time witnessing the total destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem, and seeing her people, already degraded and famished by Siege, Famine, and even cannibalism, marched off to Exile in Babylon. Any businessman would shout, "No No No, Zeke! NOW is NOT the time to BUY! Just cut your losses and get outta here!"

But God "makes His offer" and Ezekiel doesn't refuse. Who could refuse when presented with perhaps the most awesome Vision of the Throne of God, which didn't happen very often in the History of Humanity. Perhaps Isaiah and Stephen had similar Visions, but the Full Glory wouldn't be shown again until John's Vision on the Island of Patmos.

It was an offer Ezekiel couldn't refuse, because of his Awe and Wonder, not for "Vito's" reason.
