The Psychology Professor, a dedicated Freudian, lectured confidently that most psychological problems these days were caused by babies being weaned from the breast too early. I objected, and said that, as the oldest of six children in eleven years, I knew for a fact that all my siblings and I had been Bottle-fed from the very beginning. My Loud Mouth got me a "C" for the course, and kept me off the Dean's List. I never forgot the injustice of that. It was water under the bridge, but I asked Mom about it, and she said I was RIGHT.

How could anyone forget the Early Fifties, with Breastfeeding being deemed "obsolete", dozens of glass bottles and rubber nipples, stacked in a huge vat of boiling water on top of the stove? They even had special stainless steel racks to hold the bottles and nipples in the "Sterilizer".

Then the Playtex Company came out with plastic liners for bottles, already filled with formula, that were supposed to be more "natural" for the baby. Of course, this created more waste in the landfills, and who knows what leeched out of the plastic liners into the formula. Vintage Playtex liners, presumably still filled with 60-year-old formula, are selling on Ebay for $80.00. Why would ANYONE want that?

In the late 1960's there was a move back to Breastfeeding, and, if one can handle it, is probably the best thing for the Baby and the Mom. After all, that's one of the aspects of being a "Mammal", and exquisite design and provision of God from the tiniest field mouse to the mightiest whale. St. Paul expresses his wonder at this beautiful picture in his First Letter to The Thessalonian Church:

"...just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you...."(1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 NIV)

St. Peter compares the Word of God (inspired by The Holy Spirit) as "Pure, Spiritual Milk".

With it comes Nourishment, Natural Immunity, and Bonding in Love. What an Awesome Comparison!

Prayer To Understand the Word of God

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Lord Jesus to be my Saviour and for dying for me on the cross and paying the price for my sins. Thank You for giving us the Word of God that so beautifully opens up Your plan of redemption for mankind and thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to live in me and to lead and guide me into all truth.

I pray Lord, that You would give me a deeper understanding of Your Word, Your plan for Israel and Your plan for the Church. I pray that as I read and study the scriptures, that my heart would be flooded with Your light, so that I can understand all that You would teach me. I pray that my understanding would cause me to live in a way that is honoring to You, and that I would draw closer to You with every passing day.

Father, I pray that You would open the eyes of my heart as I read, study and meditate on Your Word, so that I may see You more clearly and love you more dearly. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
