Ellen White on the Catholic Religion: "A Seductive Bewitching Power by which many are deceived"
The Great Controversy Page 567 ^ | 1911 | Ellen White

A religion of externals is attractive to the unrenewed heart. The pomp and ceremony of the Catholic worship has a seductive, bewitching power, by which many are deceived; and they come to look upon the Roman Church as the very gate of heaven. None but those who have planted their feet firmly upon the foundation of truth, and whose hearts are renewed by the Spirit of God, are proof against her influence. Thousands who have not an experimental knowledge of Christ will be led to accept the forms of godliness without the power. Such a religion is just what the multitudes desire.

She also writes and I quote:

The church's claim to the right to pardon leads the Romanist to feel at liberty to sin; and the ordinance of confession, without which her pardon is not granted, tends also to give license to evil. He who kneels before fallen man, and opens in confession the secret thoughts and imaginations of his heart, is debasing his manhood and degrading every noble instinct of his soul. In unfolding the sins of his life to a priest,—an erring, sinful mortal, and too often corrupted with wine and licentiousness,—his standard of character is lowered, and he is defiled in consequence.

Interesting, she wrote over 100 years ago about the Catholic Religion, and it’s confession to a priest, as a “license to sin”...pretty much the same thing the kid in A Bronx Tale said!!

Wow....just go to confession, and then go out and sin again!

Amazing..watch the scene. “You could start (sin) over every week”

That’s exactly what Ellen White wrote about this counterfeit system over 100 years ago....it’s a “license to sin”

“It was great to be Catholic and go to confession. You could start over every week.”

The kid in the movie “A Bronx Tale.”

Ellen White over 100 years ago:

Quote:

“The church’s claim to the right to pardon leads the Romanist to feel at liberty to sin; and the ordinance of confession, without which her pardon is not granted, tends also to give license to evil.”

Amazing.....just amazing.

Ellen White on Catholic “Papists” who place crosses on their churches, garments, altars, etc:

Quote:

Papists place crosses upon their churches, upon their altars, and upon their garments. Everywhere is seen the insignia of the cross. Everywhere it is outwardly honored and exalted. But the teachings of Christ are buried beneath a mass of senseless traditions, false interpretations, and rigorous exactions. The Saviour’s words concerning the bigoted Jews, apply with still greater force to the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church: “They bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.” Matthew 23:4. Conscientious souls are kept in constant terror fearing the wrath of an offended God, while many of the dignitaries of the church are living in luxury and sensual pleasure.

End Quote.

I like her phrase about Catholic priests and officials who “bury the teachings of Christ beneath a mass of senseless traditions”

I agree with her.

This writer, this protestant writer named Ellen White....also called Sunday as the Sabbath...”A child of the papacy.”

She’s right there too. That is why God is calling his people “out of babylon”........which means religious confusion. He says “come out of her my people and worship the creator.”

The Seventh day Sabbath is a memorial to creation.

The papacy hates the Bible Sabbath because it rebukes her claimed authority to change the law of God. Read her Catechism. It’s all there.

>>>A wolf fighting other wolves over the flock.>>>>

Love her writings. Here’s more:

Ellen White:

Quote:

The worship of images and relics, the invocation of saints, and the exaltation of the pope are devices of Satan to attract the minds of the people from God and from His Son. To accomplish their ruin, he endeavors to turn their attention from Him through whom alone they can find salvation. He will direct them to any object that can be substituted for the One who has said: “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

And Catholicism is gaining ground in America too. In our leaders, media, etc. It’s growing.

>>>What has brought up the topic of Ellen White so much recently.>>>

There is a Roman Catholic poster who is lying about her, so I think people might see what she wrote herself. Instead of his posts.

It’s in the Religion forum. Not news. I think it’s ok. I believe you can adjust your settings to exclude certain forums.

I love to debate religion, as a Protestant, I have studied the Bible my entire life. I do believe we are in the end of times, the prophecies, and I do believe God is restoring truth on the Sabbath, what happens at death, the judgemet, etc.

Ellen White on the cruelty of the Papacy....uniting paganism with Chrisitanity....and how they tortured people, inventing ways to make people suffer as much as they could before dying.

Quote:

The Roman Catholic Church, uniting the forms of paganism and Christianity, and, like paganism, misrepresenting the character of God, has resorted to practices no less cruel and revolting. In the days of Rome’s supremacy there were instruments of torture to compel assent to her doctrines. There was the stake for those who would not concede to her claims. There were massacres on a scale that will never be known until revealed in the judgment. Dignitaries of the church studied, under Satan their master, to invent means to cause the greatest possible torture and not end the life of the victim. In many cases the infernal process was repeated to the utmost limit of human endurance, until nature gave up the struggle, and the sufferer hailed death as a sweet release.

E. White, interpreted: “The belief construct of the Roman Catholic Church is wrong and inherently corrupt. For this reason, everyone should follow (and contribute) to the Ellen White version of true church.”

“The church’s claim to the right to pardon leads the Romanist to feel at liberty to sin; and the ordinance of confession, without which her pardon is not granted, tends also to give license to evil”

As a Catholic, I can state this categorically false. Knowing that my sins must be confessed in front of a priest who is physically present, and whom I will see at Mass every week, provides a strong incentive not to commit them, even with an absolute seal of confidentiality. However, an internal confession with no human present does not present the same motivation. This is in addition to the fact that Christ specifically gave his Apostles the commission to loose and bind sins.

It’s a religion that appeals to the 5 senses. The stained glass, the incense, the candles, the chants, holy water, etc. People born into it and baptized as infants say to themselves, “this is comfortable, and this is what a religion should look like. I’m staying right here. Well done Satan, well done.
