According to articles that I have read over the years, there are more than one kind of "trauma" that we endure as part of the human condition. The Big Upper-Case Trauma is usually a singular event; an assault, a disaster, an accident, or crime. The lower-case "traumas" are little things that add up, day after day, month after month, year after year. Sometimes the final reaction to the lower-case trauma can be more explosive and harmful than that of the "upper-case, Capital T, Trauma". I have found this to be the case in my own personality.

Big T Trauma, like a motorcycle accident, my husband's suicide, or my friend dying in my arms in an open helicopter, put me in what my sister calls "Survival Mode". I become almost ruthlessly calm and competent, and hell-bent on "taking care of business". It's a little creepy, actually.

Grieving is an appropriate reaction to Upper-Case Trauma. Absent Grief can become pathological.

While this is by no means a study in psychology, I have observed that I deal with lower-case trauma in a much less "appropriate" manner. Little things keep adding up, and then, suddenly, with the most trivial provocation, I explode. Or, rather, I implode, as I usually don't take it out on anybody but myself. As I look over the literature on "trauma", I realize that I'm not much different than anybody else in this regard.

Today's Scripture is full of Hope for people experiencing "Real Life". Upper-Case Traumas happen from time to time to ALL of us. Our loved ones pass away, we have accidents, we suffer sickness and financial loss, and we can be victims of scams and crime. Most of us have enough character that we can endure those things, because they happen to everybody. It's part of life.

On the other hand, the lower-case traumas are often not addressed. They don't seem big enough to make a difference. I wrote a song about it back in the early 1990's which addressed these "little" traumas.

I've seen the warning signs before.
You don't wanna stay
You don't wanna leave,
You only believe
what you wanna believe.
The vague little insults you hide in a drawer

If we look at "Trauma and trauma" and don't see anything beyond it, then life in this Vale of Tears wouldn't have any meaning at all. But if we look at Today's Scripture about The Holy Spirit, we see that, with Him, Trauma and traumas are not just a burden, but can be used by Him to make us better people. Nobody wants to hear platitudes about this when he is actually going through the Trauma itself. The Realization has to come after the Trauma is past.

With the Endurance, Patience, and Hope bestowed upon you by the Holy Spirit, the Trauma becomes a lesson, rather than a lessening.

I am currently reading in the Book of Lamentations, which may be as unpopular as the Book of Job. Jeremiah has written five long poems commemorating the Destruction of Jerusalem. It is a HUGE Trauma for the Jewish people, and is commemorated to this day every year on Tisha B'Av. Right in the middle of the Third Poem is this verse:

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

May The LORD turn all your traumas into Hope.
