I want to thank everybody for their kind wishes and condolences on the passing of my beloved Brother-In-Law Don. The Memorial was last Night, and went on for Seven Hours. All the musician friends and relatives were limited to only two songs each, and it still went that long. This man was truly LOVED. Here is his obituary, composed by my Sister Chris: (I removed all the surnames from this very public forum)

Donald of Norwell passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the Royal Nursing and Rehab Center in Wayland, Mass., after a long and arduous battle with Early-onset Alzheimer's Disease. He was 62 years old.

Donald was born in the Kenmore Square area of Boston, Mass. on October 31, 1962, to the late Donald Sr. and his wife "Betty". Don's early years were spent in his mom's birthplace neighborhood in the shadow of Bunker Hill in Charlestown. The family moved to Merrimac, New Hampshire when Don was a preteen, and shortly after settled in the working-class town of Haverhill, Mass. He was a 1980 graduate of Haverhill High School, best known for being the inspiration for Riverdale High School in the "Archie" comic book series.

Don's teenage years were dominated by his love of music and burgeoning talent on guitar. Don found joy in making music with his many friends, a talent that helped him through the tragedy of his father's early passing from a brain tumor when Don was only 17 years old. In the years following his father's death, his mom Betty welcomed Don's friends into her home to make music and share meals, laughter and fellowship, a life-affirming tradition that Don continued throughout his life. Don's musical talent was innate, but he always strove to improve, studying at programs offered at Boston's Berklee College of Music.

Don met the love of his life Patty at a coffee house in the mid-1980s in Haverhill when she and her sisters were performing in a Christian rock band from Boston. The attraction was immediate and undeniable, and the long-distance romance culminated in their marriage in 1986. Don and Patty raised their two sons Donald and Colin on the South Shore, settling in North Quincy within the eyesight of Wollaston Beach, in the two-family home of his beloved in-laws, Clayton and Virginia.

An experienced chef, Don studied culinary arts at Bunker Hill Community College and spent much of his early working career as a cook in nursing homes. After graduating from Bay State School of Technology studying computer repair and installation, Don changed careers and became a highly valued copier technician with Konica Minolta, Inc., where he was employed until the devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.

Music was a constant in Don's life. He was rarely seen without a guitar in his hands. Shortly after getting married, his friend, Bill, got him a cheap bass guitar, and Don soon mastered that instrument also. Along with Patty, he served as a music minister/director in area churches and was a pivotal member of many a band of various genres from rock to gospel, Americana to Irish roots. He was generous with his time, sharing his expertise and teaching and encouraging anyone who asked for his help. Family and friends will always fondly remember holidays and vacations with Don and Patty, sitting on the beach or by a lake, singing and jamming with Don leading the way.

In his last years, Don found comfort and focus in music as therapy for his condition. After moving as empty nesters to Norwell, Don and Patty enjoyed the wonderful company of a welcoming "Open Mic" family who were blessed to get to know them as much as they were blessed to be a part of a unique group of musicians of all ages and skill levels. Throughout his life, Don exhibited a generosity of spirit and caring that endeared him to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Don is survived by his wife of 38 years Patricia of Norwell, his sons Donald III and wife Kelly of Kingston, Colin and wife Kristen of Hyde Park, his brother Douglas and wife Debbie of Epping, New Hampshire, his sister Noelle and husband Mitchell of Haverhill. Beloved "Papa" to grandchildren Donald, William, Violet and Emma. Treasured brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life at The Tinker's Son Restaurant on Sunday, March 23 from 6pm to 8 pm, immediately followed by Sunday "Open Mic,"osted by family friend, Jeff Rosen. Musicians are encouraged to participate in Don's honor.

It would be Don's wish that in lieu of flowers, support local musicians by attending a live music event on the South Shore.

The response last night was overwhelming, and the outpouring of love was genuine. Don's son (also named Donnie) said that it was "because of his Dad that he was a Christian."

I can't think of anything better to say than that.
