Episcopal Church removes Saint George's Cross, adds "Pride" colors on shield logo

You know, sometimes I scroll right past things that are too bizarre because I think, "There's no way this isn't a parody."

This was almost one of those times:

There's no earthly way that the Episcopal Church, as woke as they are, would have created a "Pride" shield. Is there?

So I Googled it. And I found it.

If you showed this to an Episcopalian 150 years ago they'd say, "What the heck is that?" And then after you explained to them what the "pride" movement was, they'd probably laugh in your face and not believe you.

But it's 2024, and Episcopalians are redesigning their historic and iconic church's shield to mimic the "Pride Progress" flag.

Old article, but has nice pictures of the old and new shield. As pointed out, the new one no longer has the red cross of St. George, which is the English, as opposed to the British flag. The Cross of St. George was formally adapted under Edward VI, when they wanted to eliminate the worship of other saints, but St. George as the patron saint of English goes back much further.

Gay shield looks like a joke. Unbelievable they adopted it.

There is also the Anglican Church of North America, with about 1/8 the number of churches as the Episcopal Church, which is more conservative on social issues and generally more conventionally religious. It uses the 1928 prayer book slightly modified from the original English liturgy adopted under Edward VI.

The cross is a very offensive symbol to some, so I suppose they should chuck that too. It’s not inclusive enough anyway since Jesus said “few are chosen”.

This is really sickening. I love the Anglican litugical tradition and almost joined the Episcopal Church many decades ago. I guess I dodged that bullet.

The good news is there are people who are young enough that they will probably live to see the Episcopal Church close up shop.
