Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!

My sister brought her teenage daughter to visit me in Florida. I had gotten a two-bedroom condo for a "timeshare week" in Orlando, where there were a lot of "Attractions" and Entertainment. (There's lots to do there, even while avoiding Disney).

Since we all grew up loving The Movies, we went to The Universal Theme Park. Aside from the usual Rides and Restaurants, the Park features some really informative exhibits and shows about the art of Film-making. One of my favorite shows there was a live presentation by two Special Effects experts who demonstrated their craft. I don't know if that show still exists at Universal, but it was my favorite at the time. I was a little concerned that my teenage niece would lose patience with these thoughtful and well-done presentations. After all, her generation was used to Computer-Generated Special Effects, Video Games, and Effects that were much more exciting.

As we were coming out of the Special Effects Show, my niece noticed a sign at the end of the street.

"It's a Lucy Exhibit!" she cried out as she ran. "I LOVE Lucy!"

My sister and I couldn't keep up with her, so we walked to the building. She was already inside.

The Exhibit was Museum-Style, glass cases with artifacts, notebooks, contracts, scripts, photos, bits of costume, a model of the set for "I Love Lucy", and one TV Monitor showing Episodes of the program. My niece was totally absorbed in the Exhibit, and her enthusiasm spilled over to me and my sister.

There was a fragment of a notebook, written in Lucy's own hand, describing an exercise to do before each filming. I read the steps and realized that it was the exact same exercise that I teach my vocal students, with instructions to do it before every performance. I felt a deep connection between me and the Pioneers of Television, stretching back 60 years.

I also felt a connection to my niece and her generation. "I Love Lucy" was groundbreaking, and yet had no computers or even Special Effects. Although TV had never spoken about pregnancy, for example, Lucy was expecting "Little Ricky" at the same time my Mom was expecting my Baby Brother. In a sense, Lucy and Mom went through their pregnancies together, and I learned about where babies come from in a gentle and appropriate way. The show also showed a marriage between an American woman and a Cuban-American man. At the time, such a thing wasn't discussed on TV. I might also add that Lucy was the only one who gave Gene Roddenberry a chance with his new show "STAR TREK".

While this all has nothing to do with The Holy Spirit, I want to remind you of a catchword that comes to us from the original Lucy Show. When Lucy, in one of her crazy schemes, gets caught, her husband Ricky would say, with his Cuban accent,

"Lucy...'SPLAIN!"

Many people in my generation use the contraction "'SPLAIN" as a demand for an explanation. It appears in Memes, Blogs, and even casual conversation. A variation is "He's got a lot of 'SPLAINING to do!" When spoken aloud "'SPLAIN" has a distinct Cuban accent, without any bigotry or negative intent. It's just the way we pronounce "SPLAIN. It has become part of our common culture.

Word had gotten back to the Christian Elders in Jerusalem that The Apostle Peter had gone into the house of a Gentile. Not only was Cornelius a Gentile, he was a Pagan, and an Officer in the Occupying Army; A Roman Oppressor!

Peter had a lot of 'SPLAINING to do.

But Peter had been ordered to go with the Romans to Caesaria. The Holy Spirit assured him that it was safe to do so. Then, The Holy Spirit gave Peter the right words to reach Cornelius and his household. The Holy Spirit also prepared the hearts of the Centurion and his family to receive Peter's words. Then The Holy Spirit provided the same gift to the gentiles that He bestowed upon the Apostles at Pentecost.

Finally, The Holy Spirit guided Peter as he 'Splained.

It’s a breathing exercise:

1. Stand still, with pelvis tilted forward, knees soft, and palms at your side.
2. Breathing normally open your palms as hif you hands are on hinges, and bring them up slowly over your head, palms together.
3. Keeping your ribcage in this raised position, turn your palms back to back and bring your arms back down to your side.
4. Take a deep breath and hold for the count of 6
5. Let the breath out slowly, like a slow leak in a tire.
6. Relax.

3 sets of 10. Lucy’s was almost the same.

Careful...it might make you a little lightheaded at first.
