Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (2/9/25)[Prayer]

Names and Titles of God the Holy Spirit
(Spokesman) Acts 4:23-26

23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

King James Version

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Heavenly Father,
How Wonderful,
How Glorious,
How Excellent is Your Most Holy Name!
Our Hearts Overflow with Worship and Wonder at Your Glory!
Teach us To Put Our Confidence,
Not in Riches or Material Things,
But Only in You,
Everlasting and Almighty God!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

If you would like to be on or off the Daily Ping List, please let me know.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 7

A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjaminite.

1 O Lord my God, in you I take refuge;
save me from all my pursuers, and deliver me,
2 or like a lion they will tear me apart;
they will drag me away, with no one to rescue.

3 O Lord my God, if I have done this,
if there is wrong in my hands,
4 if I have repaid my ally with harm
or plundered my foe without cause,
5 then let the enemy pursue and overtake me,
trample my life to the ground,
and lay my soul in the dust.
Selah

6 Rise up, O Lord, in your anger;
lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;
awake, O my God;* you have appointed a judgement.
7 Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered around you,
and over it take your seat* on high.
8 The Lord judges the peoples;
judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
and according to the integrity that is in me.

9 O let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
but establish the righteous,
you who test the minds and hearts,
O righteous God.
10 God is my shield,
who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a righteous judge,
and a God who has indignation every day.

12 If one does not repent, God* will whet his sword;
he has bent and strung his bow;
13 he has prepared his deadly weapons,
making his arrows fiery shafts.
14 See how they conceive evil,
and are pregnant with mischief,
and bring forth lies.
15 They make a pit, digging it out,
and fall into the hole that they have made.
16 Their mischief returns upon their own heads,
and on their own heads their violence descends.

17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,
and sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

There's a fresh blanket of snow on everything, so I guess I'll be staying in today, with brief forays into the cold to shovel. It is my least favorite thing to do in the whole wide world.

Spending time indoors is not so bad, as long as I have electricity. I recently discovered the most delightful, warm-hearted, HONEST Classical Music Critic on You Tube. His name is Dave Hurwitz, and he sometimes has me Laughing Out Loud 🤣. He not only reviews music he loves, but also music he can't stand. He tells anecdotes about Conductors, analyzes execrable performances by otherwise respected artists, discusses various Classical Music "Cults", bad timing, lousy interpretations, and other spellbinding subject matter from the World of Classical Music. He has hundreds of videos, but so far my favorite is Dave's scathing evisceration of Furtwangler's interpretation of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, staged for around Hitler's birthday (Seriously). The recording, performance, mix, interpretation, and timing of this horrendous example of craven capitulation to evil is positively astounding. Dave doesn't mince words. Sometimes his language is a little salty, but I think that's why I like him. Dave calls this miserable performance "The Nazi Ninth", and, of course, the Classical Music Snobs are outraged.

Listening to Dave, I am reminded of the Announcers on the Classical Music Stations in my Lifetime. My Dad listened religiously to WCRB Boston FM Radio, because they had the Boston Pops Live Every Saturday Night. The Music was Great, but the Announcers affected a weird, Haughty Drawl, that, I suppose, was supposed to identify them as Educated, Wealthy, Upper Crust Aristocrats. NPR Announcers also affected this "accent", and I found it extremely annoying. Maybe it's because of my dislike for that affectation that I find Dave's off-hand delivery, replete with Yiddish expressions, slang, and mild cuss words, so refreshing!

Dave courageously speaks the "heresy" that, "Just because it's Classical, doesn't mean it's GOOD." For years I have contended that, for every Mozart, there are 90,000 "Solieris", Competent Musicians who do their job, but are not GIANTS. So there. I've said it! Anyway, check out some of these Videos if you are so inclined.

This is so much like Peter and John's experience in this section of the Book of Acts. The Gospels even indicate that Peter had a rustic Galilean Accent. He was a working man, with calloused hands and a rough, impulsive personality. He has just been caught "Healing Without A License" and is brought before the Sanhedrin, the Ruling Religious Council. Peter's judges are Aristocratic, Educated, Religious, and Refined. They probably speak with meticulous erudition, like an NPR Classical Music Announcer.

Peter, if he had not been filled with the Holy Spirit, would have been totally overwhelmed and crushed by the odds...70 Scholars against two Rednecks.

But, filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter and John stood their ground. They were so impressive that the renowned Sage, Gamaliel, suspected that there was more to their testimony than met the eye. He warned his colleagues to not stand in the way of this movement. If it wasn't "of God", it would collapse on its own.

Furtwangler's "Nazi Ninth" doesn't seem to be available on You Tube. There is a later version from after the War, but the comments are turned off. There are less than six hundred views, and I didn't even listen to the whole thing. It would seem that this collaborator' interpretation has been lost to the Ages.

Or, at least, it SHOULD be. Like Gamaliel said it would, it collapsed on its own. There was no need to suppress it.

However, Peter and John's Spirit-Filled testimony is with us to this Day.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

I am surprised to hear this about the 9th symphony as directed by Furtwangler, one of the greatest music conductors of the 20th c.
I think this is the right version, horrible sound, needs to be remastered. The adagio is sublime.

Adding my daily prayers for Israel and the World. God bless.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Often classical music seems so good because usually only the best survived.

That seems to be the one, but the examples that Dave played had issues that were more than just recording issues. It was very strident and weird.

Maybe the Maestro was deliberately doing it weird to protest the regime?

What do you think?

Ah, but there will always be a scholar with an agenda who will dig up the bad stuff!

Like some non-binery pre-christian sheep sheering music from Albania...or something. 😁

The second critique makes sense to me. It admits the noisy Tympanies and dark foerboding basses, and attributes them to Furtwanglers angst.

But, as a Sound “Man”, I have to say that it soulds unbalanced to me, and downright noisy.

Just the other night I was doing sound for my sister, and the bar was noisier than usual. I made several adjustments until the Guitar and the voice were matched, not only in volume, but in EQ as well. One can NOT overpower the other.

If it was meant as a protest, it was lost on Hitler and his henchmen, who thought it was GORGEOUS. (in all its bombast and cacophany!)

This is a contrast to Leni Reifenstahl, who, while a joyous participant in the propaganda machine, was actually an innovative filmmaker.

Directors still use a lot of her techniques (Swooping dolly shots, epic panoramas, etc) but her films are still banned in many countries because of her enthusiastic support of nazism.

Furtwangler has been called one of the “greatest conductors of the twentieth century”. I believe he was totally aware of the weirdness of this interpreation of the Ninth.

“Hitler’s Birthday? I’ll give him a performance he will NEVER forget!”

LOL!
I know the work of Leni Reifenstahl. I have Triumph of the Will, the best and most effective propaganda movie I have ever seen. I bought it out of curiosity.
