The debate around this law reminded me of the practice by ancient Rome and other societies of the โexposure of infantsโ. They were abandoned to the elements of weather or predators. Poor people could be rid of extra mouths to feed, and especially those of baby girls who were also a dowry liability. They could also be rid of those with imperfect physical makeup or parentage. The practice seems to have resulted from utility and did not have any spiritual significance. Kenneth Scott Latourette in his history of Christianity notes the practice ended where the faith took hold.
Now this major political party, representing half the people living in this country, affirms a similar practice of murder, but in the face of 21st century scientific progress, which could save these children. Children that could have survived are killed by a medical profession no longer laboring under moral dilemmas, as noted with Harvard medical school eliminating their Hippocratic Oath. When such an alternative exists, abortion should be regarded as a pagan sacrament.
