"The goal is to use logic to move hearts and minds in the same way that campaigns to wear seatbelts, not litter, put out campfires, not drive drunk and other issues have gone from largely ignored to ones the public is passionate about. Copenhaver aims to replace cultural brainwashing, she said, with absolute truths."

When I saw the title, I was afraid Copenhaver's effort was going to be about sacrificing principles. But I couldn't have been more wrong. Copenhaver's efforts are aimed at unabashedly throwing truth in people's faces and fighting brainwashing. I wish her well.

I certainly applaud her effort, because I donโ€™t think there is any middle ground on abortion based on the left's commitment. By a 220-210 margin, the House of Representatives passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, with only one Democrat voting in favor. So, with only one exception these Democrat legislators establish a line for defense of abortion within their party that includes those born alive despite attempted abortion.

The debate around this law reminded me of the practice by ancient Rome and other societies of the โ€œexposure of infantsโ€. They were abandoned to the elements of weather or predators. Poor people could be rid of extra mouths to feed, and especially those of baby girls who were also a dowry liability. They could also be rid of those with imperfect physical makeup or parentage. The practice seems to have resulted from utility and did not have any spiritual significance. Kenneth Scott Latourette in his history of Christianity notes the practice ended where the faith took hold.

Now this major political party, representing half the people living in this country, affirms a similar practice of murder, but in the face of 21st century scientific progress, which could save these children. Children that could have survived are killed by a medical profession no longer laboring under moral dilemmas, as noted with Harvard medical school eliminating their Hippocratic Oath. When such an alternative exists, abortion should be regarded as a pagan sacrament.
