One of the most disturbing sequences in the movies is in Terminator 2-Judgment Day. The "Internet" has attained sentience and AI machines have taken over the planet. Human Beings are reduced to small bands of Guerrilla Fighters, hiding in caves and constantly fleeing the "killer drones". Arnold Schwartznegger plays a "drone" who has been reprogrammed by the Guerrilla Leader (the Adult John Conner) to go back in time and prevent the invention that caused the "Skynet" to gain self-awareness in the first place.

The character played by Schwarzenegger is not human, and needs to be taught how to be one by the young boy John Conner. At first, it's just slang expressions, contractions in his grammar, and mannerisms, but, after a while, spiritual and emotional values are shared, and the "drone" ends up making the Ultimate Sacrifice in the end. Knowing that his own survival would leave the door open to "Skynet" gaining sentience, The "Terminator" allows himself to be annihilated in boiling metal, as John weeps and grieves the loss of his "Friend".

While it's not my intention to recommend R Rated Movies on a Prayer Thread, I have to admit that Terminator 2 was Better than Terminator 1, and infinitely better than Terminator 3, which succumbed to Political Correctness and ruined the whole premise for the series. (Ugh...as if Sarah Conner wasn't enough of a "Strong-Female-Character!)

What is interesting though, are the parallels with Christian Belief that permeate the movie. These only seem to show up in the second of the three, but let's look at them:

The terminator arrives on earth naked, from another place in Time. His two famous lines are : "Come With Me If You Want To Live" and "I'll Be Back". Finally, he gives his life to Save the World. I'm confident that the writers had no idea that they were referencing the Gospel in T-2. They just drew upon our culture to write a good story...but it's there if you look for it.

Anyway...back to Today's Scripture!

During times of persecution, there is a need to bond with people who are allies. In the First Century, it is theorized that a Christian would draw half of a fish in the dust with his toe. If the other person completed the fish with another line, then both knew that they were brothers in Christ. This evolved into the "Fish Symbol" that you see on Bumpers and Fenders across America. It also helps that the Greek Word for "fish" (ICHTHIOS) is an anagram for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior".

By sporting the fish on one's bumper, the person is identifying himself as a Christian. But, now the "secret" is out, so he better not run any red lights or cut anybody off in Traffic!

Sometimes I recognize a Christian without the Fish Symbol or Cross Necklace giving him away. This is a Spiritual thing that I can't really explain...I just KNOW. It is as if the Holy Spirit within me is recognizing the Holy Spirit within the other person.

As Jesus said to Nicodemus:

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6 KJV)

During my working years for a large defense company in California with a multi-cultural diverse employees, it amazed me how Christians could sense and find each other without the physical cues. And many times non-Christians like to hang around them because they were usually nicer people.
