On the Big Island of Hawaii, there is beach that is composed entirely of Green Sand. It is appropriately called "Green Sand Beach". It is nearly inaccessible, and requires a long, long drive down a windy, desolate road towards the southernmost point in the United States, called, not surprisingly, "South Point". In 2013, being the person that I am, I drove the rental car the whole way, even though the Rental Agreement said "NO SOUTH POINT OR SADDLE ROAD!!!!" If I broke down or had an accident, I was going to be in Big Trouble.

Soon the Tropical Trees gave way to a windswept grassland, blighted by hundreds of broken, rusty, greasy Wind Turbines. The blades had broken off most of the towers, and were lying on the ground. Grease dripped from the turbines at the tops of the poles, and some of the poles were even toppled. It was a nasty, dystopian scene. When I got to the end of the field of windmills, the road became impassible and required Four-Wheel-Drive, so I turned the car around and drove all the way back to the main Highway. I never did get to see Green Sand Beach, except from a Helicopter, but that just isn't the same. I have no idea if the the site has been cleaned up or not, but I think the problem is that it was just too windy to have a Wind Farm there.

Today's powerful Scripture Passage was quoted by Peter on the Day of Pentecost. Some wise guys in the crowd had just accused him of being Drunk at Nine in the Morning, and this was his response.

To those who have never experienced the Infilling of The Holy Spirit, it probably looks that way: what else could be causing this inexplicable Joy and Peace that passes Understanding, but some mind-altering substance? Combined with the Vocal manifestations of The Holy Spirit (Prophecy, Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues), the effect must have been very dramatic. But Peter quickly brings it all together by Quoting The Word of God, and Preaches a Powerful Sermon that leads to the Salvation of over 3000 people.

The Gifts of the Spirit are designed by God to do certain things:

1. To Be A Sign For The Unbeliever. Some people can be persuaded with a nice little conversation. They are open-hearted, and seeking. Sharing the Gospel with such People is a Pleasant Experience. Some of us wish we could encounter this kind of Person all the time. However, such placid and agreeable People might be so "open-minded" that they could encounter another "preacher" next week, who has a different message. St. John even warned us not to even open the door to false teachers.

I was the opposite kind of person. I wouldn't believe anything unless I saw it myself, and even then, I was hard to convince. This kind of Nihilism was fashionable in the 1970's, because the counter-culture had tried everything under the sun seeking life's meaning, and ended up with nothing.

In 1981, I was dragged to church, and there was a message in Tongues which was immediately (and appropriate scripturally) interpreted. The Message was personal and applicable to ME, and even included some of my own Song Lyrics describing my spiritual condition. That was the day I was converted to Christ. The Gifts of the Spirit were manifested in such a way that they were a Sign to the Unbeliever, as described in Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 14.

2. Intercessory Prayer: Sometimes we don't know what to pray for. How can we know? We are not Omniscient! But The Holy Spirit knows. It is during those moments of prayer, when we are sensitive to His Guidance, that we can "zero in" on a Pastor in Prison in North Korea, or a man in Oregon facing a crisis of Faith. We have no idea, but we find ourselves praying (either in English or some unknown language) for this person. We may never know who it was, or what the results were, but, we need to be obedient to The Holy Spirit and let Him lead us.

3. Self-Edification: The Holy Spirit gives His gifts as HE wishes, not on a schedule or "on demand". Jesus uses the Wind to illustrates this. We don't see the wind, but we see the results. The wind goes wherever it wants; we can't direct it to do our bidding. One needs only to look at the ruined "Wind Farm" on South Point in 2013, to see the Awesome Power of the Wind. It is no coincidence that the Word for The Spirit in BOTH Greek and Hebrew is the same as the word for "wind". When Nicodemus went to Jesus by night to learn about The Holy Spirit, Jesus said:

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.(John 3:6-8 KJV)

My attempts at reaching Green Sand Beach without Four-Wheel-Drive were futile. Man's attempts to harness and direct the wind on South Point were futile as well. However, when we are yielded to The Holy Spirit, His direction, comfort, and guidance empowers us to do His Will. He will never give you a task without supplying the means of accomplishing it.

It is always very uplifting to start the day with your lessons. Each day we discover more, we attain an expanded understanding of Scriptures. I am so glad I joined so many years ago. You are a blessing.

Amen to your prayer, words and examples. Israel is quickly running into God's unavoidable timing. Finally able to defend itself, yet causing much anger against its people. Shall we see a great exodus back to Israel now?

Our family saw those broken down windmills, and the abandoned hospital in Hilo, broken windows and all. Ill attempts by the government and wasteful. However we did hike to Green beach, not a very safe place, narrow and with strong current, many have lost their lives there as there is not much to grab onto as you are swept out to sea. But the Lord protected us. So too our lives our nation and Israel.

May we hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to us, in Jesus Name, Amen!

Wow...I’m so happy you got to do that, and that my own story resonated with you. It’s a good thing that I didn’t hike down to the beach, because I was ALONE. My friend, who had come to Hawaii with me, had just suffered an aneurism in an open helecopter over Kiluoea, and she had been airlifted to Oahu and was in a coma.

I was not in the right frame of mind to be going into the ocean at such a treacherous spot.

I’ll have to retell that story about my friend at a later date, as I have shared it here a couple of times.
