Dear Father In Heaven,
How Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
We Love You With Our Whole Heart
With Our Whole Soul

My Mom, like me, was a huge fan of the JEOPARDY! TV Show. We often discussed what would be a good "FINAL JEOPARDY!" Clue. Here are two that Mom came up with:

CLUE: These Four United States Presidents were Born in Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

ANSWER: Who are:
John Adams
John Quincy Adams
John F. Kennedy
and George H.W. Bush?

CLUE: This Ubiquitous Fashion Statement was invented by the US Navy During WW2.

ANSWER: What is the T-Shirt?

There were many more, but those are the two I remember from our marathon phone conversations. A lot of people would have gotten the first three Presidents, but would probably miss on George H. W. Bush, because he was born right on the border with Boston (Suffolk County) in Milton, MA (Norfolk County). I got the answer right away, because I lived in Hyde Park, on the Suffolk County Line, around the Corner from the house where President Bush was born.

That was a fine line in those days. On the Suffolk County side was a City Of Boston Housing Authority Project, and on the Norfolk Side of the same street were elegant 19th Century Mansions on a Tree Lined Avenue, a small Private College, and Wealthy People who had Carriage Houses and Stables on their Property. The Mansions on that street were legendary. There was one (now replaced by condos) that had been the home of Millionaire Howard Johnson (Of Ice Cream Parlor and Hotel Chain Fame), and we had used the Ballroom for Church Services at one time. There was another Mansion that was the home of an eccentric Movie Star from the Silent Film Era, whom we swore had been the inspiration for Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. She even had an old Rolls Royce with a Chauffeur who paid the Tab for her as she went into the Stop and Shop in Hyde Park and took whatever she wanted off the shelves

I think her Mansion is gone now too. Perhaps the College took over the Property.

Just as a Fine Line can separate Counties, City Limits, and even Lifestyles, there are shades of meaning that differentiate the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit. We have already spoken of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as Prophecy, Healing, Tongues, Wisdom, Understanding, Discernment of Spirits, Counsel, and so forth. Different Denominations in Christianity even disagree on whether some of these Gifts are still in operation, and I have stated clearly where I stand on that issue (They ARE still in operation, IMHO).

A GIFT is something that is GIVEN to you. You didn't "earn" it. If you earned it, it would be called your "Wages", NOT a gift. On the other hand, "Fruit" is the result of Cultivation, and requires time and care to produce.

In my tiny garden in Florida, I had a Mango Tree, Avocados, Bananas, I didn't have Citrus because they required too much work. Pruning, Pollinating, and keeping away pests was a full-time job. At the time, there was also a Citrus Virus allegedly going around, and Broward County was confiscating all the Citrus Trees, even in people's back yards. I just didn't want to deal with that, so I avoided it. To this day, resentful residents suspect that the Virus wasn't all that bad, but certain BIG FARMERS had crossed the palms of CERTAIN POLITICIANS (ie: go back to the beginning of this article to get a clue), to get rid of competition from Backyard Citrus Trees. Just Speculation, Mind You!

The point of my rambling is that Fruit is different from Gifts. Fruit doesn't just get given to you. It has to be planted, nurtured, pruned, cultivated, and grown. Who does all that work? The Cultivator is The Holy Spirit.

All of the Nine Fruits mentioned are very desirable in a personality. If everybody allowed these Fruits to be cultivated in their lives, what a beautiful World this would be.
