I have had six dogs in the last 50 years. Each one had a totally different personality, different quirks, and different behaviors. Of the six, the last four were "Rescues", and each one had a different story. Torey, a Border Collie, came from a very nice Shelter in the Suburbs of Boston, while Penny, a Pit-Bull, came from a huge shelter in the Inner City. Lynn-Dah had been found wandering around in Clayton County Georgia, and somehow ended up in an "overflow" shelter with 274 Rescued Miami-Dade Pit-Bulls.

Tippy, my current Buddy, is an Aussie Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) who originally came from Houston, and lived in a Foster Home about 80 miles away from my house. Penny-The-Pitbull had passed away barely a week before, but I was determined to get another dog.

The Adoption Process had changed quite a bit since Covid. It used to be that you could walk into a Shelter, able down the rows of cages, and the dog would pick YOU. That's exactly what had happened with Torey, Lynn-Dah, and Penny. It was the same whether the Shelter was in Massachusetts or Florida, in the Suburbs or in the City. While there may have been a little vetting, it was pretty straightforward. There were so many homeless animals, and if I could have, I would have taken them all! But I only had room for one, especially in Tippy's case, as I now live in a Mobile Home (AKA a Trailer).

Everything is done online now. I chose Tippy from pages of adorable pictures of pups, after filling out a detailed application online. Before I could even meet Tippy, I had to do a ZOOM call Tour of my house, inside and outside. There was some concern that I didn't have a backyard, fencing, or even a basement. My houseplants were cited as a danger, until I explained that they were made of SILK (much easier to grow!).

Finally, after an 80 mile journey to the Foster Home and a walk with Tippy, I was approved. That was two and a half years ago. Now, even though Covid is behind us, it seems that the rescue operations have settled into this way of doing things.

One of the most important considerations is the new home for the "Rescue". My dearest friend (from all the way back to 8th Grade) does Home Visits for a Rescue Organization for a particular Breed which needs a lot of space, and a Fenced-In Yard. While the home may be a perfect environment, the lack of a Fenced-In Yard might put a snag in the process. Other factors can also cause issues. Because the Organization is doing everything online, they don't get to meet the potential Adopter Face-To-Face. A Home-Visit (or ZOOM Call) is often what seals the deal.

Although I went through a lot to get Tippy, I'm so happy I did. She is a handful, but that's the way she is, and she keeps things "lively". There is a Bumper Sticker on my car that says:

WHO
RESCUED
WHO?

There is a lot about "Adoption" in the New Testament. In Paul's Letter to the Romans, he states:

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

The term that Paul uses for "Adoption" is a legal term from Roman Jurisprudence, which gives the Adopted Son full Legal and Familial rights as a son born with the same DNA. He is a Heir, just as a Biological Son would be. This is a Promise from God Himself, Our Abba Father.

Paul says in three separate letters that our bodies become the "Home" or "Temple" of the Holy Spirit. Paul implies that we shouldn't abuse our bodies, because we don't want to give The Holy Spirit a decrepit place to live.

This can be misinterpreted by Sports Coaches and Supermodels who cultivate their Bodies at the expense of their Spiritual Home. A perfect, magnificent home that graces the pages of Architectural Digest is useless if nobody LIVES there. It is the same with a perfect Body that doesn't have the Holy Spirit. It's like the Israeli Folk song says:

The land of Israel,
Without the Torah,
Is like a Body
Without a Soul.

The fussy animal shelters are part of the woke agenda. Animals are more important than people and the employees seem to enjoy rejecting potential loving families because they’re not good enough..for a lonely orphan animal. They sometimes won’t even accept the approval of a veterinarian because of unrealistic expectations and rules that are not based on veterinary science. (Oops. Looks like I have some forgiving to do.)
