(Spirit of Prophecy) Acts 21:7-15

7 And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day. 8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

12 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.

13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

15 And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.

For years, cheap ads played on the TV about a famous "Psychic" who could tell you the future. Whatever money was saved in the production costs of the hastily made video was by far eclipsed by its saturation on the air. During the commercial breaks, the ad would sometimes run three times in a row. I imagine the Psychic must have been surprised when she got her first bill for airtime. I'll bet she never saw it coming!

Years later, there was a brief news item that caught my eye. After years of obscurity after her initial fame, the Psychic died of COVID. This was a nasty virus that seemed to catch the world by surprise, including the Famous Psychic. She didn't see that coming either.

During the initial Covid Lockdown" a lot of free educational programming became available on Cable TV. I chose several College Courses and completed five of them in three weeks. Since there wasn't much else to do, I figured I could improve my mind a bit.

One of these courses was about Virology, produced in 2018, two years before the Pandemic. It was a very interesting course, and included interviews with members of the Center for Disease Control, and the National Institute of Health. A younger doctor (whose face would become very familiar in two more years) stated casually that "A big Epidemic was projected within two or three years, and that we would have to learn to live differently and employ "Social Distancing".

I was stunned. This wasn't Stephen King writing THE STAND, this was a DOCTOR with the NIH. Back in 2018, this wouldn't have been noticed by anyone as being unusual, but, sitting in my locked house and not having had human contact for over three weeks, I was horrified. What did she know, and when did she know it? Was she being prophetic, or was it a slip up? Was she part of a team that was actually making this virus?

I'm sorry...I can't remember the name of the documentary, nor have I been able to find it anywhere online. I started questioning my own observation or interpretation of the doctor's words. Did she really say "Social Distancing"? I watched so many programs during that time, non-stop. Now we are learning so many things about the Pandemic, that are changing many people's opinions about The Medical Establishment. There WERE people who "saw this coming", but they were subjected to mockery, suppression, and, in some cases, fines and imprisonment, especially in Australia and Canada. Pastors went to jail rather than close their churches. Those who couldn't produce proof of vaccination couldn't shop, go to concerts, or eat in restaurants. Some people speculated that the Vax was "The Mark of the Beast". There were extremes on both sides.

True Prophecy is that which comes from The Holy Spirit. Sometimes, the words of one prophet may seem to conflict with the words of another, yet both seem to be speaking from the guidance of The Holy Spirit. Today's story from The Book of Acts is one such time.

Agabus, whom we have already met in this story, is a respected Prophet in the Christian Community. He successfully predicted the Famine, giving the Community plenty of time to prepare for themselves and the needy. Now he was tying himself up with Paul's sash and saying that if Paul goes back to Jerusalem, he was going to get arrested and chained up.

This true prophecy caused Agabus and the other assembled Believers to beg Paul not to go. Meanwhile, Paul is getting Inspiration from the Holy Spirit to indeed go to Jerusalem. How can they both be right?

We know from the rest of this Book that Paul got arrested in Jerusalem, just like Agabus had predicted. That arrest got Paul bounced around "The System" for over two years as the Roman Governors really didn't know what to do with him. His "crime" was disagreeing with the Religious Leaders, and he was a Roman Citizen by Birth. He was, in a way, in Protective Custody, but it still involved chains. Agabus was RIGHT. He saw it coming.

Paul probably saw it coming too, but he was also RIGHT, in being sensitive to The Holy Spirit's leading to go to Jerusalem. In his defense, Paul used his RIGHTS as a Citizen, his knowledge of Scripture, his own personal powers of persuasion, and his understanding of Roman Law.

His demand to appeal to Caesar (as was his Right as a Citizen) got him on a boat to Rome. While he may or may not have "seen that coming", rest assured, The Holy Spirit DID.
