Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (12/5/24)[Prayer]

Names and Titles of God the Holy Spirit
(Direction) Acts 16:1-9

16 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
We Praise and Worship You;
For You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The One True God!
Blessed Are You Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
Rock of All Ages!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

When I was in High School, I got obsessed with Ukrainian Embroidery. This intricate form of the needlework arts used the even weave of the fabric to produce startling geometric designs. Sometimes they were multicolored, but usually they were on white fabric with black and red stitching. The blouse I wore at my own wedding had been hand embroidered by myself, and was encrusted with precise geometric patterns. I still have it but I can barely get one arm into it, it is so small. Was I ever that size?

In my Freshman Year in College, I was assigned to do a paper on "Folk Art". Naturally, I chose Ukrainian Embroidery. I did a serious study of the Art, digging through the stacks at the Boston Public Library, and venturing into the South End of Boston (now a very chic area, but then, not so much), to purchase clandestine embroidered pieces and patterns from the then-forbidden Soviet Union. I was very proud of my project, and was appalled when the professor gave me a "C-". His argument was that "Embroidery wasn't an 'Art". It was a 'Craft".

I argued and argued with him over that, and finally (sorry to say), I played the "Misogyny" Card.

"You don't think Embroidery is a real art form because it's traditionally done by WOMEN!"

He changed my Grade to a 'B'. I deserved an 'A' but I didn't want to push my luck.

In doing the research for the project I learned a lot about the Art, and its regional variations. An expert, in looking at the designs, could tell if the artist was Christian or Muslim, and even what city or village represented by the design. The closer one got to the Muslim areas, the more the Crosses, Roses, and other representational forms of art would disappear, and Geometrics would predominate. The designs from the area we call "Central Asia" bore a resemblance to the designs on Persian Carpets, another "Folk" Art produced by Women. It got to a point where I could look at a piece of Embroidery, and tell you where it came from.

Conversely, When a guy on the NEWS mentions a battle in the War in the Ukraine, I envision the embroidery that goes with the location. For example, I heard a guy mention "Poltava" the other day, and I envisioned a black and white string of stylized roses spiraling down a pure white, billowing sleeve. I know. It's weird.

In Today's Scripture passage, we see Paul deciding his Itinerary into Asia (parts of what we now call Turkey) to preach the Gospel. It seems that every place he points to on the map, The Holy Spirit forbids him. The Book of Acts doesn't explain how The Holy Spirit forbids Paul, but he seems to get the idea that the Spirit doesn't want him to go that route. He goes to bed that night without a clue as to where he should go next.

Then, in a Dream, a Man from Macedonia (Northern Greece) appears to Paul and pleads to him to come to Macedonia and help.

How does Paul know that the Man is from Macedonia? It says clearly that it was because of the design of his clothing that Paul recognized his origin.

The Holy Spirit can speak to us in a lot of different ways. The important thing is to know how to listen.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 48

A Song. A Psalm of the Korahites.

1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God.
His holy mountain, 2beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
3 Within its citadels God
has shown himself a sure defence.

4 Then the kings assembled,
they came on together.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
they were in panic, they took to flight;
6 trembling took hold of them there,
pains as of a woman in labour,
7 as when an east wind shatters
the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in the city of our God,
which God establishes for ever.
Selah

9 We ponder your steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of your temple.
10 Your name, O God, like your praise,
reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with victory.
11 Let Mount Zion be glad,
let the towns* of Judah rejoice
because of your judgements.

12 Walk about Zion, go all around it,
count its towers,
13 consider well its ramparts;
go through its citadels,
that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God for ever and ever.
He will be our guide for ever.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Such an interesting mini-essay on the art of embroidery and its regional meaning.

Joining in prayer. God bless.

(Years ago I got obsessed with Bavarian Folk Art. Took classes, bought acrylic paints and made a lot of nice boxes, ducks, mirrors, plaques. Had a ball.
Would your professor have considered the Bayeux Tapestry not art?)

LOL! Good One, especially since the College had a whole department dedicated to "Fiber Arts". Ha Ha Ha.
