27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

After plowing through Edgar Allen Poe's only full-length novel, I have decided that the famed Author should have stuck to what he did Best: Spooky Short Stories and Powerful Poetry. As for his one attempt at Novel-Writing, I have but one word:

NEVERMORE!

That being said, I have embarked upon a totally different novel that is a Chronicle of a 70's Rock Band. (I'm pretty sure it's based on Fleetwood Mac), and it reveals a lifestyle that is so emblematic of the Era. "Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n'Roll" isn't just a cliche'. It was a very destructive lifestyle, and it is amazing that there were any survivors at all. (Keith Richards not withstanding). Now, imagine if one of these Rock Stars decided to join an Amish Community. There would definitely be some serious changes that would have to be made!

The Early Church had some big issues to overcome. As long as it had been a minor movement within the Jewish Community, the only problems had been with the Religious Hierarchy, but now, Gentiles were being invited into the Fold. With the Gentiles came a whole new set of issues. Foreign Customs, Religious Practices, Forbidden Foods, Sexual Matters, and Pagan Rites all clashed with the Law of Moses, which governed every aspect of Jewish Life. Much like the Amish, there were both Religious Laws and Lifestyle Laws. Unlike the Amish, there was also a little surgical procedure that had to be performed on men if they wished to convert to the Jewish Faith. Men who were truly called by God's Grace to believe in the Jewish Messiah were faced with this painful requirement, as it was believed by some that a man had to become a Jew before he could become a Christian.

Paul had been a most zealous Pharisee at one time, and he knew that this was a huge impediment to the spread of the Gospel among the Gentiles. He had even circumcised Timothy (who's father was Greek) so that the young man would be acceptable in the Community. But this couldn't go on forever. It became a serious matter for Prayer and Discussion. Finally, a compromise was brought to light, and the Gentiles were given relief from this ordinance. There were a few caveats, as if the Rock Star could still wear his hair long and his torn jeans, but gave up the "Sex, Drugs, and Rock'n'Roll" to be part of the Community.

The Covenant with Abraham had been Sealed with the Blood of Circumcision, but the New Covenant was Sealed with the Blood of Jesus.

Two men were sent with a letter that shared this principle with the Gentile Believers.

The Scripture states, almost casually, that these men were "also prophets". The Prophetic Gifts had already, in the First Century, been passed onto the next generation of Believers. It is my personal belief, based upon Scripture, that these Gifts have never been withdrawn from us, generations later.
