(Sight to the Blind) Acts 9:10-18

10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:

14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.

15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Last Night I had a lovely time celebrating a friend's birthday, but I didn't get to bed till after midnight. I was hoping that Tippy would wake me up at seven instead of six, but alas, no. Nevertheless, I managed to squeak out an extra half-hour of sleep.

Usually, I catch a glorious sunrise in my morning walk, but today was different. The mere half-hour time shift caused me to miss the sunrise, and the low, late Autumn Sun was right at my eye level. Sunglasses and a brimmed hat were of no avail. The Sun was in the perfect position to be a baleful, piercing presence, making it impossible for me to see. I had to change direction frequently, popping into side streets and behind buildings to stay in the shade. The trees were no help, as they have lost all their leaves for the Winter.

Poor Tippy didn't get her usual four miles this morning. It was more like three, but it was just too unpleasant to continue walking Southeast, under the "Third Degree".

We have come to a pivotal place in the Book of Acts. We have already met Saul, a pious Pharisee who would rather have people killed than have them question his religion. (There are still people like that , sorry to say.) He evidently had some standing with the ruling council, as he was able to obtain warrants for the arrest of the people with whom he disagreed. If that wasn't bad enough, he also obtained permission to go all the way to Damascus and round up some Believers there. These were innocent men, women, and children who weren't bothering anybody, but just believed that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah.

Just yesterday, I was on You Tube, looking up some Bible Verses to help with our Daily Devotional here on this site. All of the Titles on YT are sensationalized, to get "clicks", so I don't pay much attention to the lurid title pages. Unfortunately, what I thought was going to be some helpful teachings ended up being hateful diatribes against various factions within my own Faith. This guy is a "False Teacher", that guy is a "Fake Prophet", this guy preaches Heresy, that guy blasphemes The Holy Spirit. It was as if the whole collection of Videos had blinders over their eyes

Now I am not denying that there are some fringe groups in Christianity that teach doctrines that are not supported by The Bible. Some groups rely more on extra-biblical sources for their Belief System, be they the writings of Joseph Smith, Ellen White, or even the Gnostic Gospels, the Talmud, the Early Church Fathers or John Calvin. While I find it interesting to read these documents, I always want to go back to the Source. If any of these writings disagree with what it says in the Bible, I just go with what the Bible says. It's that simple. Of course, lots of prayer is involved, because I don't want to misinterpret what I read. I humbly ask The Holy Spirit to guide me in my studies. And, even if I know a teaching is incorrect, I am certainly not going to get a warrant for the arrest of its adherents!

Saul was confronted by a Blinding White Light that was so excruciatingly powerful that it knocked him to the ground and struck him with Blindness. It took THAT to get his attention. Even after Jesus revealed Himself to Saul, the Blindness continued for three days. It wasn't until a Fellow Believer came, and laid his hands on Saul's eyes, that Saul was given back his sight. It was as if scales that were covering his eyes fell off of them. Scripture says that Saul was then "Filled with the Holy Ghost".
