Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Name!
You Alone Are Worthy to be Praised and Worshiped,

The following story is from an experience I had a few years ago.

I love Yogurt-Covered Raisins. I thought I had hit the jackpot when I saw a large bag of them for only $5.99, because they are usually quite expensive. I opened the bag and started gobbling them up. They seemed a little sweeter than usual, and suddenly I felt sick to my stomach. I stopped gobbling and looked at the ingredients. There were neither dairy products, yogurt cultures, cane sugar, or natural flavorings in the coating. The only things real were the raisins, but they were thickly coated in an unpronounceable chemical slurry that tasted like yogurt, but wasn't. I threw the nearly full bag into the trash, even though I still craved the sweet taste of the fake yogurt!

When I mused over the unpronounceable chemicals in the product that were masquerading as "yogurt", it got me to thinking about the tremendous deception that takes place with certain key words. Some of these are:

1. Organic: by a strict definition, "organic" means carbon is in the molecule. Thus we have "Organic Chemistry". If one goes strictly by this definition, a lump of coal could be called "organic", but you sure don't want to eat it. The word has come to mean that the food product was grown or produced without the use of chemicals or pesticides. The word has taken on a new meaning, a "virtuous" one as in, "I only eat Organic Food". All food is "organic". You can't eat rocks.

2. 100% Natural: What the heck does that mean? Everything on the planet is the product of Nature. There are lots of things that are 100% Natural that you can't eat. You can't eat poop, for example, even if it's the most natural thing in the world. The Advertising World has made "100% Natural" a byword, and a virtuous one at that.

3. Yogurt: The word "Yogurt" used to be enough to signal that the food was made from milk (usually from a cow, but could be a goat or a sheep), to which cultures had been added to ferment it slightly, giving it a longer shelf-life and a slightly tangy flavor. It was considered a "Health Food" and was "virtuous" all by itself. Then it started to become popular. Fruit, Sugar, Emulsifiers, and Gelling Agents were added, and then it got frozen and became a "virtuous" alternative to Ice Cream. Sometimes it had more Chemicals and calories than the Ice Cream it was replacing, but it just "seemed" healthier. A movement began to make yogurt healthy again. Along with "Organic", and "100% Natural", came some more virtuous words like "Non-Fat", "Greek", "Probiotic", ""With LIVE Cultures!", and so on. Yogurt had run the gamut from a "health food" to a "dessert" to a "health food" again.

The worst development was the term "Yoghurt-Flavored", which meant there were no live cultures or even MILK involved. And that's what had coated those "Raisins from Hell" that made me sick.

Now that I have had my rant for the day, let's look at Today's Scripture Passage. It has been used to justify everything from Communism to Tithing. Ananias and Sapphira had sold some land and donated a portion of the proceeds to their local church. That was a nice thing to do. It was not required of them to give the entire amount or even to sell the land in the first place. Their sin, which was so grievous that it brought about their death, was lying about it. They even conspired together to lie, saying it was the whole amount they were donating. Why would they do such a thing? It was all about getting accolades from the Apostles and everyone else over how generous and wonderful they were. In modern parlance, this is called "Virtue Signaling".

Peter caught on right away, and told the couple that they weren't lying to the Apostles, they were lying to the Holy Spirit, He goes on to say that they weren't lying to men but to God Himself.

You can't lie to a "force", a "power" or an "Aura". Only a Person can be lied to. The Holy Spirit is thus a Person, and that Person is God.
