Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Glorious and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!

New Appliances had been hastily installed in my kitchen by the previous owner, in order to sell the property. I looked with admiration at the Beautiful Stainless Steel GAS Stove. I LOVE cooking with gas. Electric Stoves were just not cool. Even though I'm not much of a chef, (My Favorite Thing To Make For Dinner is RESERVATIONS), I do prefer Gas Stoves over Electric.

My first morning in my new home, I decided to make fried eggs. I turned on the burner and huge flames shot up, about a full 12 inches over the grate. YIKES! I tried the other burners and it was the same. What's going on? It looked like a WW2 Flame Thrower. I called the Gas Company.

The Gas Company Guy explained that the Stove had not been installed properly:

1. The Stove wasn't using Natural Gas. It was using Propane from a little tank just outside the house.

2. The tank wasn't a legal one, but the kind one would use for an outdoor grill. It had no regulator or filler gauge. That would have to be replaced with a regulation 100 Gallon Tank from the Gas Company.

3. The Connection through the wall was just a little Rubber Hose, like on a Hibachi. A proper Connection from the outside tank had to be Copper Tubing.

4. Last, but certainly not least, the Stove itself had the wrong "orifices". Natural Gas, evidently, is a bigger molecule than Propane, and so requires a larger nozzle. The Gas Man explained that the entire stove needed to be retrofitted with the proper orifices to regulate the flow of the Propane.

He asked me if I had the "orifices" lying around somewhere. Well, NO, I did not. Did he have any on the Truck? No he did not. "Well," he said, "You'll need six of 'em. Four for the burners, one for the oven, and the SPUD."

The next day I got on the phone with Whirlpool and tried to order the Orifices. I was told that I could NOT have them because I was not a licensed Plumber.

Then I called a local Plumber and asked THEM to order the orifices, with the promise that I would pay them to install them.

Two days later the Plumber called me and said that Whirlpool refused to send him the Parts because he wasn't the Homeowner. By this time I was starting to Freak Out

"Listen," said the Plumber. "These are the part numbers: 879576 for the four burners, 879577 for the Oven Orifice, and 879579 for the SPUD. Just call and order them by Part Number, and then I'll come and install them for you."

And so that's what I did. The Parts cost nearly $100.00, but it paled in comparison to the bill from the Gas Company and the Plumber.

Years later, when I was cleaning out the Furnace Room, I found the manual that came with the Stove. In it was a little baggie that contained the ORIGINAL Orifices that had come with the Stove. The previous owner, in order to sell the house ASAP, had never bothered to convert the Gas Stove to Propane.

Greek Myth has the "gods" furious with Prometheus for bringing the Gift of Fire to mere Mortals. The Discovery of Fire was what put humans on the Road to Civilization, as they now could keep warm, cook their food, and assemble themselves into families, clans, tribes, and, eventually, villages and cities. Ancient sages considered Fire to be one of the Four Elements, and nothing beats a fireplace shedding its warmth and light into a room. A particularly excellent orator can be said to be "on Fire", and extreme love is described as a "Fiery Passion". Jeremiah describes his Love for God as fire swelling in mine heart, and closed in my bones; (Jeremiah 20:9 KJV).

In Today's Passage, The Holy Spirit appears as Tongues of Fire over the head of each Apostle. The Fire doesn't consume the Apostle, but is "regulated" to be as much as he can bear. After this experience, the Apostles go out and start being "On Fire For The Lord".
