Rev. Debra McKnight is the senior impastor and founder of Urban Abbey, a United Methodist Church. According to her bio, she is “passionate about connecting with the people and helping them grow in their faith” and an “advocate for social justice, women’s rights, and the LGBTQ+ community” where she seeks to “heal the wounds created by conservative Christianity.”
In a recent sermon, wearing her The Spirit of Jezebel shirt, McKnight claims that the “Jezebel Spirit” is basically any woman who is “competent, attractive, and smart,” just like Jezebel herself and presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
McKnight reveals that when she was getting married to her husband, she looked for a “biblical model of marriage” to highlight and represent her at her wedding She settled in on Jezebel and Ahab, calling them “true partners,” but ultimately decided to forgo her choice so she didin’t have to spend half the wedding explaining her affection and affinity for those two.
She admits that Jezebel made a mistake when she urged Ahab to kill the man for the vineyard, but argues that Jezebel didn’t do anything David didn’t do, and yet he was called a man after God’s heart, while she was unfairly labeled ‘the worst.’
Getting even more blasphemous, she praises all Jezebel’s good qualities and defends/ justifies her Asherah worship, saying she wasn’t the only one in Israel practicing this faith and in fact, was “bringing about an openness to religious diversity.”
She seems to lament that Elijah killed all the prophets of Baal “in an act of violence” and then wonders why we all can’t just forgive Jezebel, before going on a rant about men controlling women’s bodies.
Lastly, McKnight is delighted that the totems, household deities, and false idols were not all destroyed in Israel, reveling in the stories of them being hidden. She insists that worship of false gods was “not a threat” but instead represented God being “celebrated” in wild and diverse ways.

I wonder if this pastor also celebrates the destruction of Jerusalem and the captivity by the Babylonians? Probably not, because that is what finally got Israel to abandon their worship of false Gods.
(When the Hebrews first entered the promised land they were supposed to kill everyone and everything in the land. They didn't - and Baal and the other false gods infiltrated their religion and culture. They were NOT diverse forms of worship to the true God.)

It wouldn't surprise me. Something like:
“God calls each of us on a very personal level to our own journey. No wonder God has given us gifted doctors that can provide health care to women so that we can be free to go after the things set before us without unwanted burdens.”

Yes. Placing women into positions of executive authority is a sure path to organizational failure and dysfunction. Hence our government bureaucracy, armed forces, intelligence agencies and social organizations’ current state of incompetence.
