Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours, and The Fullness Thereof,
You Have Created It,
and All It Contains.
It Is You,
The Eternal,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Blessed Are You,

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,

My first day on the job as a Bicycle Messenger was exhausting. After criss-crossing Boston and Cambridge for eight hours, I didn't have the energy to ride the final 12 miles to get home. I opted to leave my brand new Motobecain Ten Speed in the locked office on Tremont Street and take the Subway home.

When I arrived the next morning to work, OF COURSE, my bike was GONE.

Don, my boss, who was also the drummer in my band, was horrified that this had happened to me. He gave me the keys to his apartment on Beacon Hill, told me to walk over there and take the Ten Speed parked in his living room. He, in effect, gave me a new bike.

I walked over to Joy Street and let myself in. As I was getting the bike out from behind the couch, I thought I could hear water running, and then it stopped. Suddenly, the bathroom door opened and Don's roommate stepped out, soaking wet and totally naked.

After we stopped screaming, the roommate grabbed a towel, and I explained who I was and why I was there. Struggling to make meaningful conversation, I noticed a huge Bible on the coffee table.

"You're reading the Bible?" I asked, kind of sarcastically.

"Oh Yes, he answered. "And if you never read anything else in the Bible, Read The Book of Acts!"

Yeah. OK. I hastened to get out of there. The encounter was so bizarre, and I really had no desire to read the Bible, or hang out with the wet, naked, man. On my way I went! I suppose with the advent of email and fax machines, Bicycle Messengers are no longer a thing, but this was in 1976, the Bicentennial Year, and 48 years ago, before I came to faith in Jesus Christ.

My Dear Friend Skip gave me my first Bible in 1981. The first thing I did was turn to the Book of Acts, and started reading. What a Story! I mused that somebody should make a movie or mini-series out of it (it's been done). There's so much Action in the Book of Acts.

While it seems like Peter is the star of the earlier chapters, and Paul the star in the later parts of the Book, the real Star is The Holy Spirit. He is present from Chapter One to the end of the Book.

In the second verse we are told that The Holy Spirit, The Comforter, Teacher, Advocate, and Promise of the Father, will come and teach the Apostles everything they need to know to share the Good News with the rest of the World.

Since it is a short book, only 28 Chapters, I read a chapter a day in my personal Bible Reading. That means I read the whole thing at least once a month, twelve times a year, for over 40 years.

It would seem that, whoever stole my Ten-Speed in 1976 did me a huge favor.
